Map of the Soul: 7 adalah album studio keempat berbahasa Korea dan ketujuh secara keseluruhan oleh grup vokal pria asal Korea Selatan, BTS. Album ini dirilis pada 21 Februari 2020, oleh Big Hit Entertainment, dan merupakan kelanjutan dari Map of the Soul: Persona yang dirilis pada tahun sebelumnya.

Latar belakang dan promosi

Album ini diumumkan pada 7 Januari 2020, dengan pra-pemesanan dimulai pada 9 Januari.[2] Pada tanggal 9 Januari, grup ini merilis "comeback trailer" resmi untuk album mereka, berjudul "Interlude: Shadow", yang dibawakan oleh anggota Suga.[3] "Map comeback" untuk album ini dirilis pada 8 Januari, mengungkapkan jadwal dibagi menjadi empat fase. Peta ini mencakup beberapa tanggal, termasuk tanggal rilis untuk album dua single.[4][5] Single pertama album "Black Swan" dirilis pada 17 Januari, bersamaan dengan "film seni" yang menampilkan koreografi yang dilakukan oleh Perusahaan Dansa Slovenia MN.[6] Kelompok ini menampilkan "Black Swan" untuk pertama kalinya di The Late Late Show dengan James Corden pada 28 Januari.[7][8] Band ini merilis trailer comeback kedua yang menampilkan lagu J-Hope "Outro: Ego" pada 2 Februari.[9] Kelompok ini akan memulai Peta Tur Jiwa mereka pada bulan April 2020.[10] Dari 9 Februari hingga 12 Februari, band ini merilis koleksi empat seri foto konsep yang berbeda, "menawarkan penggemar wawasan baru tentang apa yang diharapkan dari album", menurut Matt Moen dari Paper.[11] Pada 16 Februari, Big Hit mengumumkan bahwa album ini akan memiliki total dua puluh lagu, termasuk kolaborasi dengan penyanyi Australia Sia.[12] Pada tanggal 20 Februari, klip 30 detik dari single utama "On" dirilis pada TikTok.[13]

Pada 20 Februari, sehari sebelum album dirilis, BigHit merilis detail tentang album yang akan datang. Dalam lead single, "On", band "mencerminkan panggilan dan pola pikir mereka sebagai seniman selama tujuh tahun." "Louder Than Bombs" ditulis bersama oleh Troye Sivan, "We Are Bulletproof: The Eternal" adalah kelanjutan dari lagu BTS 2013 "We Are Bulletproof: Part 2," "UGH" menampilkan para rapper band (RM, J-Hope, dan Suga) mengekspresikan kemarahan mereka terhadap para pembenci yang jahat, dan "00:00 (Zero O'Clock)" harus menjadi lagu yang tulus dan elegan dari para vokalis (Jin, Jungkook, V, dan Jimin). Menurut Dreamus, distributor untuk Map of the Soul: 7, preorder stok untuk album ini melampaui 3,42 juta kopi selama enam hari dari periode preorder, melampaui rekor grup sendiri dengan Map of the Soul: Persona 2,68 juta pra-pemesanan.[15][16] Pada tanggal 6 Februari, Forbes melaporkan bahwa album ini dilaporkan telah melampaui 4 juta pemesanan di seluruh dunia.[17] Pada 18 Februari, preorder album telah melampaui 4,02 juta.[18]
