U-KISS (bahasa Korea: 유키스, Jepang: ユーキス) adalah boy band Korea Selatan yang dibentuk NH Media pada tahun 2008.[1] U-KISS adalah singkatan dari Ubiquitous Korean International Idol Super Star.[2] U-KISS terdiri dari Soohyun, Eli, Kevin, Dongho, Kiseop (yang bergabung pada tahun 2009),[3] Hoon and AJ (yang bergabung pada tahun 2011).[3] Alexander and Kibum adalah mantan anggota U-KISS yang kontraknya diberhentikan di awal 2011. Grup ini telah merilis dua album studio, tujuh album mini dan beberapa singel. Album studio mereka yang pertama, Only One, dirilis pada 3 Februari 2010 dengan hits, Bingeul Bingeul, dan album studio kedua Neverland dirilis pada 1 September 2011. Album mini debut N-Generation mereka berhasil menghasilkan hits Not Young. Album mini kedua U-KISS adalah Bring It Back 2 Old School, dan yang ketiga adalah ContiUKiss yang sukses dengan lagu, Man Man Ha Ni. Kedua anggota terbaru U-KISS, Hoon dan AJ, bergabung di mini-album keempat Bran New Kiss. Pada tahun 2011, U-KISS menandatangani kontrak dengan Avex Japan untuk debut mereka di Jepang. Pada 14 Desember 2011 mereka memulai debut di Jepang dengan merilis singel Tick Tack. Singel kedua mereka berjudul Forbidden Love yang dirilis pada 29 Februari 2012.
U-KISS juga terlibat dalam beberapa acara di televisi. Beberapa acara realitas mereka antara lain You Know U-KISS, U-KISS Vampire, Chef Kiss. Anggota termuda mereka (maknae), Dongho, berpartisipasi di acara varietas Raising Idol, Idol League, Real School dan Royal Family serta film My Black Mini Dress dan Hong Gil Dong.
Kehidupan dan Karier

[sunting | sunting sumber]U-KISS pertama kali beranggotakan 6 anggota pada tahun 2008. Kim Kibum dan Kevin adalah anggota boyband Xing,[4] tetapi keluar diawal tahun 2007.[5] Empat anggota lain dipilih oleh NH Media berdasarkan audisi. U-KISS debut di Jepang pada 15 Agustus 2008 di Power of Atamix 08.[6] Mereka debut di Korea Selatan pada 28 Agustus 2008 dengan merilis album mini yang berjudul New Generation (N-Generation) pada 3 September 2008 dan menampilkan live pertama membawakan lagu "Not Young" di Mnet. Meskipun mereka pendatang baru di industri ini, U-KISS dianggap boyband untuk proyek kolaboratif Jepang-Korea. Sebuah perusahaan hiburan populer, Yoshimoto Group di Jepang, menginvestasikan 150 miliar KRW untuk U-KISS sebagai kelompok yang dikenal secara internasional.[7] Alasan di balik ini adalah kualitas mereka sebagai kelompok dengan anggota multibahasa: Alexander dapat berbicara dalam tujuh bahasa, termasuk Spanyol, Portugis, Kanton, Jepang, Mandarin, Korea dan Inggris; Eli fasih berbahasa Inggris, Korea dan Mandarin; Dongho maknae yang dapat berbicara dalam bahasa Korea dan Mandarin; Kevin dalam bahasa Inggris sementara Kibum dapat berbicara bahasa Jepang.
2009-10: Only One, Acara Varietas, dan Konser Utama Pertama
[sunting | sunting sumber]U-KISS merilis album mini kedua Bring It Back 2 Old School pada tahun 2009 dengan lagu yang berjudul "I Like You" yang populer di Thailand.[8][9] Album mini ketiga yang berjudul ContiUKiss memperkenalkan Kiseop sebagai anggota baru yang ketujuh. Judul lagu yang dibawakan adalah Man Man Ha Ni dirilis menyusul saat perubahan dalam line-up mereka.[10] Album mini keempat, Break Time rilis pada tahun 2010, diikuti dengan track "Shut Up!".[11] Album full-length pertama mereka, Only One, yang dirilis pada 3 Februari 2010 dengan singel chart-topping tertinggi di Filipina, Bingeul Bingeul.[12] Album ini langsung menduduki #1 di Hanteo Charts, Hot Tracks, Syn-nara Records dan Evan Records hanya dalm waktu 1 hari.[13] Mereka melakukan promosi album ini di Malaysia, Mongolia, dan Jepang.[14] U-KISS mempromosikan album di Filipina melalui serangkaian acara, dimana mereka menjual lebih dari 1.000 kopi dalam satu hari yang memecah rekor penjualan tertinggi dalam peluncuran, menghasilkan satu juta peso.[15] Setelah sukses, mereka mengadakan konser major pertama di Philipina dengan judul U-KISS First Kiss Tour in Manila.[16][17][18][19][20][21] Selain karier musik mereka, U-KISS juga membintangi berbagai acara mereka sendiri, "All About U-KISS", "UKISS Vampire" dan "Chef Kiss" serta masing-masing anggota juga tampil di acara lain. Kevin Woo dan Alexander Lee Eusebio bergabung di acara radio Arirang Pops in Seoul membawakan segmen acara 'All About You' dan juga tampil pada lagu Brave Brother, Finally.[22][23] Eli Kim juga menjadi pembawa acara dari MBC, Fusion. Anggota baru Lee Kiseop muncul di acara varietas Uljjang Shidae 2 (Pretty Boys And Girls Season 2). Shin Dongho juga membuat penampilan di beberapa acara, seperti The Invicible Baseball Team, Idol Maknae Rebellion dan My Black Mini Dress.[24] Kibum bersama dengan Eli, juga membintangi Autumn' Destiny, drama Thailand dimana suara mereka menjadi perbincangan karena fakta bahwa mereka tidak dapat berbicara dalam BahasaThailand.[25]
2011: Debut Jepang dan Neverland

Mereka merekam lebih dari 100 track untuk album debut Amerika Serikat, namun dibatalkan karena 2 anggota memutuskan kontrak.[26] Alexander dan Kibum keluar dari U-KISS pada 2011 dan digantikan oleh mantan anggota ‘’Paran’’ Kim Jae Seop (AJ) dan mantan artis solo, Yeo Hoon Min(Hoon).[27][28] U-KISS melakukan comeback dengan album mini kelima, Bran New Kiss dengan lagu balada baru 0330[28] yang liriknya dibuat oleh salah satu membernya, AJ. U-KISS merilis album studio kedua yang berjudul "Neverland" pada bulan September 2011 dengan singel "Neverland" dan "Someday".[29] U-KISS juga merilis DVD dokumentasi yang berjudul U-KISS Day in Japan yang berisi aktivitas mereka dinegara itu.[30] DVD debut di #8 Chart Oricon Harian dipublikasikan pada 30 Maret 2012.[31] Dari 8 Juni, mereka menetap di Jepang selama 3 bulan untuk mempersiapkan debut resmi Jepang dibawah Avex Japan. Album kompilasi First Kiss menempati #2 di Chart Harian Oricon saat perilisan. Mereka merilis versi Jepang dari Bran New Kiss pada 24 Agustus 2011.[32] Mereka merilis singel Jepang pertama, Tick Tack.[33] Mereka merilis singel Jepang kedua "Forbidden Love" dari album studio Jepang pertama A Shared Dream.[34][35][36][37] Album ini menduduki #2 dan #6 di chart Jepang.[38] Pada tahun 2012, Oricon mempublikasikan penjualan tinggi di Jepang seperti artis besar lain seperti KARA dan Girls' Generation.[39]
Sebelum merilis album, U-KISS berpartisipasi diberbagai show musik maupun konser. Mereka melakukan penampilan untuk Korea-Taiwan Friendship Concert yang digelar di TICC, Taiwan,[40] Dream Concert di Stadion Piala Dunia Seoul,[41] K-POP Festival: Music Bank in Tokyo[42] dan Korean Music Wave di Singapura.[43] U-KISS melakukan penampilan di Makau untuk acara Youth's Ambition Concert juga dengan artis K-Pop lainnya, Kim Hyun Joong dan B1A4.[44] Pada tahun 2011, mereka ikut berpartisipasi dalam konser Music Bank di Paris, Prancis.[45][46][47] Mereka menjadi grup K-Pop pertama yang melakukan penampilan di Kolombia, Amerika Selatan saat merayakan 2012's Los 40 Principales yang juga menampilkan bintang internasional, Shakira.[48][49]
2012-sekarang: Dora Dora, The Special To Kiss Me, Tur dan Stop Girl
[sunting | sunting sumber]Tiket konser mereka yang bertajuk "U-KISS 1st Japan Live Tour 2012" terjual habis. Konser ini digelar di bulan Maret di Zepp Hall di seluruh Jepang.[50][51] Mereka melakukan penampilan di beberapa kota di Jepang, seperti Sapporo, Sendai, Nagoya, Osaka, Fukuoka, dan Tokyo.[51] Tur yang dimulai pada 2 Maret 2012 dan berakhir pada 25 Maret 2012 ini sukses meraih lebih dari 25.000 penonton di Jepang.[52] Dengan kesuksesan ini, mereka akan menggelar konser dibulan Juli dengan stadium yang lebih besar.[53][54] Pada minggu kedua di bulan Juni, dua tiket pertunjukkan tambahan terjual habis.[55]
Tahun ini, U-KISS menempati #1 untuk Hallyu group to watch out dengan Kevin terpilih sebagai Luckiest Hallyu Star of 2012.[56] Selain merilis album dan konser, Dongho dan Hoon juga telah berperan dalam seri film-untuk-TV baru Holly Land/Holiday yang berhubungan dengan pemberontakan dari siswa sekolah tinggi.[56][57][58]
Pada tahun baru, U-KISS mengunggah video di akun resmi YouTube mereka yang berisi bahwa mereka akan melakukan comeback di bulan April dengan album mini yang berisi 100 lagu yang direkam.[59][60] Mereka melakukan comeback di Korea Selatan dengan album mini keenam yang berjudul "DoraDora" pada 25 April 2012.[48][61] Pada bulan Mei, DoraDora menempati peringkat #1 di Jerman German Asian Music Chart pada bulan Mei mengalahkan Big Bang dengan Fantastic Baby.[62] Mereka akan merilis album mini ketujuh pada 5 Juni.[63] Judul lagu Believe dikompos AJ yang juga mengompos album mini sebelumnya DoraDora.[64] Video musik untuk lagu ini dirilis pada 8 Juni 2012.[65] Singel kedua yang berjudul Te Amo dirilis pada 1 Juni 2012 di berbagai situs dunia dan menempati #4 di Soribada.
Sebelum album dirilis, mereka melakukan penampilan bersama artis K-Pop lain, Girls' Generation, SHINee, dan B.A.P di K-POP Nation Concert in Macau 2012.[66] AJ mengakui bahwa dirinya saat berkuliah di Universitas Columbia, Amerika Serikat pada tahun 2011 menjadi 1% mahasiswa terbaik di dunia.[64] Dalam rekaman dengan NH Media, AJ akan kembali pada awal 2013, namun, U-KISS akan mengadakan comeback pada September hanya dengan 6 anggota.[67]
Pada 5 Juni, mereka merilis photobook spesial untuk fans mereka melalui iTunes bersama dengan album mini mereka yang berjudul "The Special To Kiss Me".[68] Pada 18 Juni, U-KISS mengadakan jumpa fans di Phnom Penh, Kamboja dan di akhir acara, mereka mengumumkan akan merilis singel "Believe" di akhir bulan.[69][70] Mereka merilis MV dari "Believe" pada 19 Juni 2012 lewat saluran resmi mereka di YouTube.[71]
Pada 25 Juli, mereka merilis singel Jepang yang berjudul "Dear My Friend". Singel ini juga untuk OST film anime “Arashi no Yoru ni Himitsu no Tomodachi“.[72] Sebuah lagu tindaklanjut yang dikompos oleh AJ yang berjudul "Beautiful" juga sedang digunakan untuk lagu komersial Kintetsu Department Store’s “Passe Bazaar”.[73] Sepanjang bulan Juli, U-KISS akan tampil do 16 konser di 9 kota, yang akan mencakup Osaka, Fukuoka, Sapporo, dan Tokyo. Pada 28 dan 29, mereka akan menyimpulkan tur mereka di NHK Hall di Tokyo.
Dalam berita lain, pada tanggal 25, singel ketiga Jepang U-KISS ini, "Dear My Friend", tersedia untuk dijual dan ditempatkan di #5 pada Oricon Daily Chart.
Sebelum kepergian AJ, mereka menghadiri upacara pembukaan A-Nation di Stadion Nasional Tokyo.[74] Pada 9 Agustus, mereka tampil mewakilkan Korea di Asia Progress M, bagian dari aktivitas A-Nation, festival musik terbesar di Jepang.[74][75] Mereka tampil pada 26 Agustus 2012 dengan Hamasaki Ayumi, M-flo dan Big Bang di Stadion Ajinomoto.[74][76] Pada Agustus, U-KISS comeback dengan singel digital berjudul "Cinderella". Lagu ini diketahui hanya dirilis sebagai digital dan tidak untuk album selanjutnya.[77]
U-KISS menggelar pemberhentian terakhir Japan Tour mereka di Budokan dimana mendapat lebih dari 10.000 penonton, penonton terbanyak dari semua kota.[74] Album tersebut diatur untuk menampilkan komposer tidak hanya dari Korea, tetapi juga Jepang dan Amerika Serikat.[74] Sedangkan, mereka merilis singel Jepang keempat mereka, One of You pada 5 September 2012.[78][79] Pada minggu pertama, singel ini memuncaki peringkat #1 di chart mingguan Tower Records.[80] Pada tanggal 3 September, akun Twitter resmi U-KISS berbagi foto yang diambil dari set video musik mendatang mereka. Hanya ada 6 anggota di gambar teaser karena AJ saat itu tengah kuliah di Universitas Columbia. Album mini ketujuh dijadwalkan akan dirilis pada pertengahan September yang berjudul, Stop Girl.[81] Pada 20 September, mereka merilis album mini ketujuh berjudul Stop Girl dan berencana mempromosikannya di 10 negara termasuk, Thailand, Filipina, Amerika Serikat dan Tiongkok.[82][83]
U-KISS menerima penghargaan spesial untuk kontribusi mereka di Hallyu Wave.[84] Mereka menghadiri acara perayaan Arirang TV untuk merayakan pendapatan klien mereka lebih dari 10 Juta.[82] Pada acara, U-KISS akan dinominasikan sebagai "Special Hallyu Achievement Award" dari pemerintah dari Kementerian Pendidikan, Olahraga, dan Kebudayaan.[84]

Island dan BEAST menggelar show spesial Seoul-Osaka Music of Hearts untuk membantu korban Gempa bumi Jepang.[87][88] Mereka menjadi grup K-Pop pertama yang menggelar fanmeeting di Kamboja yang digelar pada 18 Juni 2012 yang disebut Share The Love Charity Concert.[89] Fanmeeting mengarah ke sebuah organisasi amal di sebuah sekolah dimana anggota berinteraksi dengan anak-anak.[89][90] Acara ini, sebagai bagian dari proyek manfaat disponsori oleh orang-orang Kamboja yang terkenal dan bahkan dihadiri oleh Perdana Menteri Kamboja, Hun Sen.[89][90]
