Uang kartu adalah sejenis uang fiat yang dicetak di kartu biasa atau kartu remi. Dulu, kartu remi digunakan sebagai mata uang di sejumlah koloni dan negara (termasuk Guyana Belanda, Perancis Baru, dan Perancis) sejak abad ke-19 sampai abad ke-19. Saat pertama kali diperkenalkan, uang kartu biasanya langsung mengalami inflasi tinggi.
Desain dan penggunaan
Sebelum kartu remi atau kartu kosong dijadikan uang, kartu tersebut perlu diberi nilai (denominasi), lambang, nomor serial, dan tanda tangan.[1] Di Perancis Baru, kartunya dibubuhi lambang fleur-de-lis dan tanda tangan intendant, gubernur, dan bendahara.[2] Di Guyana Belanda, pengesahannya memiliki beragam bentuk tergantung edisi terbitannya.[3]
Uang kartu awalnya diterbitkan pada masa-masa darurat.[2] Uang kartu dapat dijamin oleh uang lain seperti Bills of Exchange atau tanpa jaminan sama sekali.[1][2]
