Sebuah baktun (tepatnya b'ak'tun) adalah putaran 20 katun pada Kalender Hitungan Panjang Maya kuno. Ekuivalen dengan 144.000 hari, sama dengan 394,25 tahun Masehi. Periode klasik peradaban Maya terjadi selama baktun ke-8 dan ke-9 pada putaran Kalender Hitung Panjang. Baktun saat ini (ke-13) akan berakhir atau selesai pada 13.0.0.0.0 (21 Desember 2012, hitungan GMT). Ini juga menandakan awal baktun ke-14, sebutan yang biasa digunakan oleh suku Maya.
J. Eric S. Thompson menyatakan bahwa ketika Hitungan Panjang 9.15.10.0.0 diletakkan dalam baktun ke-9, kita hampir melakukan kesalahan, seperti menempatkan tahun 2009 di milenium ke-2. Tetapi, praktik ini juga dilakukan oleh para epigraf Maya dan pelajar Maya lainnya sehingga mengubahnya, dan akan menyebabkan kesalahan lebih besar daripada sebelumnya.[1]
