Sejarah Irlandia dimulai dengan adanya pemukiman pertama di Irlandia sekitar tahun 8000 SM, ketika pemburu tiba dari Britania Raya dan daratan Eropa, kemungkinan melalui jembatan alam.[1] Sedikit jejak arkeologi yang tersisa dari grup ini, tetapi generasi penerus mereka dan perpindahan pada era Neolitik dari Semenanjung Iberia, menyebabkan adanya situs Neolitik utama seperti Newgrange.[2][3] Dengan tibanya Santo Patrick dan misionaris Kristen lainnya pada awal abad ke-5 M, Kekristenan menggantikan agama pagan pada tahun 600.
