CIESIN singkatan dari Center for International Earth Science Information Network adalah organisasi nirlaba berdiri pada tahun 1989 di Michigan Amerika Serikat kemudian pada tahun 1998 bergabung pada kampus Lamont di Universitas Columbia menjadi pusat bagian dari Earth Institute EI, CIESIN bekerja erat dengan masyarakat, alam semesta, pengelolahan khusus data on-line ilmu pengetahuan informatika dan mahajemen informasi, pelatihan dan penyediaan data terpadu antar ilmu pengetahuan yang berhubungan dengan manusia dengan alam lingkungannya, sebagai bagian dari Earth Institute EI, CIESIN bekerja erat pula dengan para ilmuwan dari Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory LDEO, International Research Institute for Climate and Society IRI, Tropical Agriculture Program TAP dan sebagai pelopor dalam pengembangan cyberinfrastruktur. ^[1]
