Emishi membayar upeti kepada Pangeran Shotoku. Diproduksi pada 1324, berdasarkan pada Shotokutaishi e-den e-maki, dibuat pada 1069.

Emishi atau Ebisu (蝦夷) adalah kelompok etnis yang pernah menghuni kawasan Tōhoku di pulau Honshū timur laut. Daerah mereka disebut michi no oku (道の奥) dalam catatan-catatan sejarah dari masanya. Asal usul kelompok Emishi tidak diketahui, tetapi mereka diduga merupakan keturunan orang-orang Jōmon. Mereka disebutkan dalam sumber-sumber sejarah paling tidak dari tahun 400. Sumber-sumber Tiongkok menyebut mereka sebagai "orang yang berbulu". Beberapa suku Emishi melawan kekuasaan Kaisar Jepang pada periode Nara dan awal periode Heian (abad ketujuh hingga kesepuluh). Beberapa ahli meyakini bahwa mereka adalah penduduk asli kawasan Honshū utara dan berkerabat dengan suku bangsa Ainu.
