AOA (bahasa Korea: 에이오에이; akronim dari Ace of Angels) adalah band dan grup idol Korea Selatan bentukan FNC Entertainment. Anggota band AOA ada 8 orang yaitu Choa, Jimin, Yuna, Youkyung, Chanmi, Hyejeong, Seolhyun, dan Mina, grup idol AOA beranggotakan 7 orang kecuali Youkyung. AOA debut dengan album singel mereka Angels' Story pada 30 Juli 2012. Fans mereka merayakan 9 Agustus 2012 sebagai hari debut AOA. Secara resmi 1 Oktober 2014 adalah tanggal debut mereka di Jepang.

Sejarah

2012: Debut (Elvis) and WANNA BE

Delapan anggota AOA diperkenalkan satu demi satu lewat foto dari 16 Juli hingga 23 Juli (secara berurutan: Seolhyun, Choa, Hyejeong, Chanmi, Yuna, Mina, Jimin, & Youkyoung).[1][2] AOA disebutkan sebagai grup tari, dengan beberapa anggota yang bisa memainkan alat musik. FNC menjelaskan pada debut AOA bahwa 7 anggotanya adalah "malaikat sepenuhnya": Seolhyunari[3] (Seolhyun), Choaya[4] (Choa), Hyejeong.Linus[5] (Hyejeong), Chanmi Titi[6] (Chanmi), Yunaria[7] (Yuna), Minaring[8] (Mina), dan ketua Jiminel[9] (Jimin).[10] Youkyoung (atau "Y") didaftarkan sebagai "setengah malaikat/setengah manusia", karena dia satu-satunya anggota band saja, memainkan drum, membuat istilah bahwa AOA adalah grup "7+1".[11] "Angel's Story" bocor ke publik pada 28 Juli, dua hari sebelum perilisan resminya.[12] Video musik untuk "Elvis" dirilis pada 30 Juli. AOA debut di panggung pada 9 Agustus di M! Countdown lalu Music Bank pada 10 Agustus.

Pada 10 Oktober FNC merilis album singel kedua AOA, "WANNA BE". Sampul album dirilis saat pengumumannya, menggambarkan kedelapan anggota AOA sebagai karakter fiksi.[13] Hyejeong, Jimin, Choa, Yuna, Chanmi, Mina, Seolhyun and Youkyung masing-masing berpenampilan sebagai karakter-karakter dari Kill Bill, Léon, Legally Blonde, Tomb Raider, Harry Potter, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Romeo and Juliet, dan The Fifth Element. Lalu diumumkan bahwa unit band beranggotakan 5 orang, AOA Black (Jimin, Choa, Yuna, Youkyung, dan Mina), akan tampil untuk minggu pertama promosi untuk "Get Out".[14] AOA Black tampil pada 10 Oktober di KM's Music Triangle dan menampilkan versi band dari "Get Out" untuk pertama kalinya.[14] AOA Black tampil untuk kedua kalinya pada 12 Oktober di Music Bank.[14]

2013: AOA Black dan RED MOTION

Pada 11 Juli, diumumkan AOA Black merilis singel ketiga AOA dengan lagu "MOYA". Album singel dan video musik untuk "MOYA" dirilis pada 26 Juli dan AOA Black tampil kembali di KBS Music Bank pada hari yang sama.[15]

Pada 9 Oktober, video musik untuk "Confused" dirilis.[16] Album singel RED MOTION, dirilis pada 13 Oktober bersama dengan "versi kontak mata" dari video latihan tari mereka.[17]

2014: Miniskirt, Short Hair, Like A Cat, dan meningkatnya popularitas

Pada 16 Januari AOA merilis album singel kelima mereka yang berjudul Miniskirt dengan konsep seksi beserta video musik untuk lagu utama album tersebut yang bernama sama. Album ini diproduksi oleh Brave Brothers, ElephantKingdom, and Galactika.[18] Pada 9 Februari, AOA merayakan kemenangan mereka dalam acara musik di Inkigayo dengan "Miniskirt".[19]

AOA merilis lagu utama mereka di album mini baru dengan judul yang sama "Short Hair" pada 19 Juni. Album ini mencapai peringkat 1 pada berbagai tangga lagu serta mencapai puncak tangga laguM!Countdown pada bulan Juli. Video musik untuk "Short Hair" mencapai peringkat 8 pada "Most Viewed K-pop Videos Around the World" (Video K-pop Terbanyak Ditonton di Seluruh Dunia) Billboard untuk bulan Juni.[20] AOA menampilkan lagu Girls' Generation "Mr.Mr." bersama BESTie dan Girl's Day untuk edisi "Spesial Setengah-Tahun" Music Bank pada 27 Juni.[21]

Pada 1 Oktober 2014, AOA merilis singel Jepang pertama mereka yang merupakan remake dari singel Korea Miniskirt dengan judul singel yang sama, namun dengan lirik lagu yang diadaptasi ke bahasa Jepang—termasuk lagu dari album mini Korea yang pertama, Short Hair.[22]

Pada 11 November 2014 AOA merilis album mini kedua mereka, Like a Cat. Pada 19 November AOA menang untuk kedua kalinya di Show Champion dengan lagu utama album mini tersebut yang berjudul sama.
