Penghargaan Golden Globe adalah penghargaan untuk film dan program televisi Amerika Serikat, yang diberikan setiap tahun dalam sebuah acara makan malam resmi. Penghargaan Golden Globe diberikan oleh 93 anggota Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) untuk memberikan penghargaan bagi yang terbaik dalam film dan televisi, baik domestik maupun asing.

Upacara tahunan di mana penghargaan tersebut diberikan merupakan bagian utama dari musim penghargaan industri perfilman, yang berpuncak pada setiap tahun pada Academy Awards.[1]

Golden Globe Awards ke-74, menganugerahi yang terbaik dalam film dan televisi pada tahun 2016, diselenggarakan pada 8 Januari 2017.[2]

Sejarah

Pada tahun 1943, sekelompok penulis bersatu untuk membentuk Asosiasi Pers Asing Hollywood (Hollywood Foreign Press Association), dan menciptakan sebuah penghargaan yang disebut Golden Globe Award, mereka sekarang memainkan peran penting dalam pemasaran film.[3] Edisi pertama Golden Globe Awards diadakan pada Januari 1944 di Century Fox 20 studio di Los Angeles. Upacara selanjutnya diadakan di berbagai tempat selama dekade berikutnya, termasuk Beverly Hills Hotel, dan Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel.[4]

Pada tahun 1950, Hollywood Foreign Press Association membuat keputusan untuk membuat penghargaan kehormatan khusus untuk mengakui kontribusi yang luar biasa terhadap industri hiburan. Menyadari subjeknya sebagai tokoh internasional dalam industri hiburan, penghargaan pertama diberikan kepada sutradara dan produser, Cecil B. DeMille. Nama resmi penghargaan tersebut menjadi Cecil B. Pada tahun 1963, konsep Miss Golden Globe diperkenalkan. Pada tahun perdananya, dua nama Miss Golden Globes diberikan, satu untuk film dan satu lagi untuk televisi. Dua Miss Golden Globes yang dinamai tahun itu adalah Eva Six (dari film Operation Bikini dan Beach Party) serta Donna Douglas (dari acara televisi The Beverly Hillbillies), masing-masing.[6]

Pada tahun 2009, patung Golden Globe didesain ulang (tapi tidak untuk pertama kalinya dalam sejarahnya). Perusahaan New York Society Awards berkolaborasi selama setahun dengan Hollywood Foreign Press Association untuk menghasilkan patung yang mencakup marmer unik dan meningkatkan kualitas dan kandungan emas patung. Sampai Ricky Gervais menjadi pembawa acara Upacara Penghargaan Golden Globe ke-67 tahun 2010, upacara penghargaan ini merupakan satu dari dua upacara penghargaan Hollywood yang utama (yang lainnya adalah Screen Actors Guild Award) yang tidak memiliki pembawa acara reguler; setiap tahun presenter yang berbeda dihadirkan dalam penghargaan tersebut.
