Pertempuran ini juga dikenal dengan berbagai nama: Pertempuran Pulau Haiyang, Pertempuran Dadonggou, dan Pertempuran Laut Kuning, sesuai dengan lokasi geografis terjadinya pertempuran yang berada di Laut Kuning di mulut Sungai Yalu, bukan di Sungai Yalu itu sendiri.[2]
