Korda, yang bernama asli Alberto Díaz Gutiérrez, lahir pada 14 September 1928 di Havana, Kuba. Ia pertama kali berminat dengan fotografi saat ayahnya memberikannya Kodak 35mm dan mulai mengambil gambar-gambar pacarnya.[1] Korda merupakan putra dari pekerja perkeretaapian, dan mengambil beberapa pekerjaan sebelum mulai menjadi asisten fotografer.
