Joan Beaufort (skt. 1404 – 15 Juli 1445) merupakan seorang Ratu Skotlandia dari tahun 1424 sampai 1437 sebagai pasangan Raja James I dari Skotlandia. Pada bagian dari minoritas putranya James II (dari tahun 1437 sampai 1439), dia menjabat sebagai pemangku takhta Skotlandia.

Latar belakang dan kehidupan awal

Joan Beaufort adalah putri John Beaufort, Earl Pertama Somerset dan Margaret Holland,^[1] cucu John dari Gaunt, dan keponakan tiri Raja Henry IV dari Inggris.^[2] Raja James I dari Skotlandia bertemu dengan Joan sewaktu menjadi tahanan di Inggris, dan mengenalnya dari setidaknya tahun 1420.^[1] Dia dikatakan telah menjadi inspirasi bagi puisi panjang Raja James yang terkenal, The Kingis Quair, yang ditulis selama penahanannya, setelah dia melihatnya dari jendela di kebun.^[2] Pernikahan tersebut setidaknya sebagian bersifat politis, karena pernikahan mereka merupakan bagian dari kesepakatan pembebasannya dari tahanan. Pada tanggal 12 Februari 1424, Joan Beaufort dan Raja James menikah di Gereja St Mary Overie di Southwark.^[1]^[3] Mereka berpesta di Istana Winchester tahun itu oleh pamandanya Kardinal Henry Beaufort. Dia mendampingi suaminya sekembalinya dari tahanan di Inggris ke Skotlandia, dan dinobatkan bersama suaminya di Biara Scone.
