Ketika di sekolah tinggi, Lubitz bekerja paruh waktu di Burger King dimana manajernya menganggapnya sebagai "dependable and inconspicuous."[12] Ia mengambil pelajaran penerbangan di Luftsportclub Westerwald, sebuah klub olahraga penerbangan di Montabaur.[13]
