Program S1 di Waseda University ditempuh dengan menggunakan beasiswa dari Science and Technology Advance Industrial Development (STAID) [[Kementerian Negara Riset dan Teknologi]]. Putri pasangan pasangan Hariyono (alm) dan Sri Ningsih ini juga mendapat beasiswa di perguruan tinggi yang sama melalui lembaga lain. Beliau menempuh waktu 10 tahun untuk menyelesaikan program S1-S3 dari tahun [[1993]]-[[2003]]. Eniya Listiani meraih penghargaan dari The [[Habibie]] Center, pada [[30 November]] [[2010]] sebagai peneliti [[Badan Pengkajian dan Penerapan Teknologi]] (BPPT). Eniya merupakan penerima Habibie Award atau [[Anugerah Habibie]] termuda sepanjang sejarah Habibie Award. Penghargaan ini dikantunginya bersama dengan 19 penghargaan lain, baik dari Indonesia maupun dari Jepang, karena keberhasilannya menemukan katalis baru untuk sel bahan bakar. Salah satu karya yang mengawali kiprahnya di bidang sel bahan bakar adalah penemuan katalis baru untuk sel bahan bakar. Polimer yang terbentuk menjadi terdiri dari 10 penyusun, padahal harusnya ada 2 penyusun. Dari hasil karya tersebut, perempuan yang menyelesaikan gelar doktor dari Fakultas Aplikasi Kimiawi, Polimer, Katalis dan Sel Bahan Bakar Waseda University, Jepang ini meraih beragam penghargaan, termasuk Mizuno Awards dan Koukenkai Awards dari Waseda University dan Polymer Society Japan pada tahun [[2003]]. Hasil risetnya dipublikasikan di delapan jurnal internasional dalam waktu tiga tahun. Temuan tersebut lantas diakui dunia. Eniya mendapatkan penghargaan Mizuno Award dan Koukenkai Awards dari Waseda University dan Polymer Society Japan pada 2003. Teknologi [[sel bahan bakar]] merupakan sumber [[energi]] alternatif penghasil [[listrik]] yang ramah lingkungan. Cara kerjanya, mereaksikan gas hidrogen dengan oksigen berdasar prinsip elektrokimia. Hasilnya adalah listrik, panas, dan air murni. Tanpa suara, tanpa emisi, layaknya baterai atau aki. Fuel cell memang tidak meninggalkan emisi. Hasil buangnya hanya berupa air murni. Prinsip fuel cell mirip dengan [[baterai]] atau [[aki]]. Bedanya, energi baterai dan aki bisa “habis”, sedangkan energi fuel cell tidak akan habis asal diisi dengan bahan bakar. Sebagai bahan bakar, diisikan [[hidrogen]], [[alkohol]] (metanol, etanol), dan [[hidrokarbon]] lain. Penelitiannya di bidang fuel cell telah dipublikasikan di jurnal dan makalah internasional serta dalam negeri. Jumlahnya lebih dari 160 judul. Dia juga telah mematenkan temuan tersebut di enam hak kekayaan intelektual. Empat paten miliknya juga masih diproses.

Karya terbarunya adalah ThamriON, sebuah membran sel bahan bakar temuannya yang baru saja mendapatkan penghargaan Inovasi Paten dari Ditjen HKI 2010. ThamriON tersebut adalah membran sel bahan bakar yang terbuat dari plastik yang direaksikan dengan [[asam sulfat]]. Karena telah direaksikan, maka plastik bisa menghantarkan listrik. Teknologi sel bahan bakar dan bahan pendukung lain hasil risetnya di kembangkan 80 persen dari material lokal, sehingga biayanya lebih murah. Dengan proses manufaktur secara mandiri, sel bahan bakar yang tersebut telah diterapkan untuk menyalakan perangkat elektronik dan sepeda motor dengan kapasitas 500 Watt. Untuk mengembangkan proses produksi dan penyimpanan bahan bakar, Eniya bekerja sama dengan berbagai pihak. Diantaranya adalah Fakultas Teknik Kimia [[Universitas Gadjah Mada]], Pusat Teknologi Bioindustri, industri polimer dan baterai.
