Orientasi seksual Pace menjadi topik diskusi publik setelah dia secara tidak sengaja dilela sebagai queer oleh Ian McKellen, yang bekerja dengannya dalam film The Hobbit di tahun 2012. "dilela" McKellen digambarkan di media sebagai kesalahan dan tidak sengaja di pihaknya, karena Pace tidak pernah membahas masalah ini.[7] Dalam sebuah wawancara dengan W pada Februari 2018, Pace menyebutkan telah berkencan dengan pria dan wanita,[8] dan pada Juni 2018, dia berbicara tentang menjadi aktor queer dalam sebuah wawancara dengan The New York Times.[1][9] Ia menikah dengan Matthew Foley, seorang eksekutif di Thom Browne.[5]
