Line of Duty adalah seri televisi prosedural polisi yang dibuat oleh Jed Mercurio. Seri pertama tayang perdana tanggal 26 Juni 2012 dan menjadi seri drama terpopuler di BBC Two dalam kurun 10 tahun dengan 4,1 juta penonton.[1] Seri keduanya tayang pada tanggal 12 Februari 2014.[2] Seri kedua mendapat banyak pujian dari penonton dan kritikus.[3] Pada 8 April 2014, BBC memesan dua seri tambahan berturut-turut.[4][5] Seri ketiga ditayangkan tanggal 24 Maret 2016, sedangkan seri keempat ditayangkan tanggal 26 Maret 2017 di BBC One. Arnott adalah detective sergeant yang ditugaskan di AC-12, satuan antikorupsi di Central Police. Ia awalnya merupakan anggota satuan antiterorisme, tetapi dikeluarkan karena menolak bersekongkol dengan rekan-rekannya usai peristiwa salah tembak terhadap orang tak bersalah. Dalam seri ketiga, Arnott dituduh sebagai informan geng berjulukan The Caddy, dijadikan kambing hitam atas pembunuhan DI Lindsay Denton, dan ditangkap. Ia dibebaskan dari segala tuduhan tersebut.
Fleming adalah polisi penyamar. Sebagai seorang profesional, Kate bersedia menyelidiki polisi di dalam dan luar AC-12. Dalam seri kedua, Kate mulai menyelidiki DI Lindsay Denton. Ia awalnya menjabat sebagai detective constable, kemudian diangkat menjadi detective sergeant pada penghujung seri ketiga. Kate memiliki seorang putra; mantan suaminya mendapat hak asuh anak.

Sebagai kepala satuan kejahatan berat TO-20, Tony Gates dikenal sebagai polisi dengan jumlah penangkapan terbanyak di seluruh Central Police. Reputasi inilah yang membuat AC-12 tertarik dengan Gates. Atas dugaan korupsi, Gates menghadapi investigasi internal yang justru mempersulit kehidupan rumah tangganya.
  • Keeley Hawes sebagai Detective Inspector Lindsay Denton (seri 2 & 3)
Denton memimpin konvoi pengawalan saksi mata yang masuk jebakan sehingga menewaskan semua polisi kecuali dirinya. Sebagai satu-satunya polisi yang selamat, Denton ditangkap dan dituduh atas konspirasi pembunuhan. Ia berupaya meyakinkan AC-12 bahwa dirinya tidak bersalah dan memulihkan reputasinya, tetapi ia diganjar hukuman penjara seumur hidup. Dalam seri ketiga, Denton naik banding dan dinyatakan tidak bersalah atas dasar hubungan seksual tidak pantas dengan Arnott saat sedang diinvestigasi. Produksi

Seri pertama dan kedua dibuat dan ditulis oleh Jed Mercurio dan diproduksi oleh World Productions atas nama BBC Two. David Caffrey dan Douglas Mackinnon menyutradarai seri pertama. Mackinnon menjadi sutradara tiga episode pertama seri kedua, sedangkan Daniel Nettheim menyutradarai tiga episode terakhir seri kedua. Mercurio memproduseri seri pertama dan menjabat sebagai produser eksekutif seri kedua. Peter Norris menjadi produser seri kedua.

Inspirasi

Meski polisi menolak bekerja sama dengan produser Line of Duty, tim produksinya mendapat saran dari polisi aktif dan purnawirawan anonim. Tim juga memanfaatkan blog polisi anonim.[18]

Lokasi

Seri satu diproduksi di Birmingham (termasuk interior pub di Queens Arms),[19] sedangkan seri kedua, ketiga, dan keempat diproduksi di Irlandia Utara oleh BBC Northern Ireland. Nama kotanya tidak disebut. Peta Birmingham tampak di dinding dan nomor teleponnya memakai kode wilayah 0121 (kode Birmingham). Nama kepolisian yang digunakan dalam seri ini, Central Constabulary dan East Midlands Constabulary, adalah nama fiktif. Kantor polisi 4th Street Station terletak di Ormeau Avenue di Belfast.[20]

Penyensoran

Setelah mendapat keluhan dari satu pentonon, regulator media Ofcom menemukan bahwa BBC melanggar Rule 1.28 Code pada tahun 2012. Ofcom menyatakan ada "kecolongan berat" dalam kewajiban penanganan aktor berusia 13 tahun, Gregory Piper, yang tampil di beberapa adegan "yang mengandung kekerasan dan dialog seksual yang eksplisit" dengan melanggar aturan penyiaran yang mewajibkan "penanganan fisik dan emosional serta martabat orang-orang di bawah usia 18 8tahun".[21] Dalam laporan lengkapnya, Ofcom mencantumkan kegagalan produser melibatkan ahli independen seperti psikiater anak untuk menentukan kemampuan intelektual dan emosional sang aktor untuk terjun ke dalam adegan-adegan kontroversial. Selain itu, produser program tidak mengikuti praktik yang dianjurkan BBC Editorial Policy Unit. Namun, Ofcom tidak menemukan kerugian atau kegelisahan yang dialami aktor cilik tersebut.[22]
