War Thunder adalah permainan video pertempuran kendaraan multipemain yang dikembangkan dan diterbitkan oleh Gaijin Entertaiment. Diumumkan pada tahun 2011, pertama kali dirilis pada November 2012 sebagai beta terbuka dengan rilis di seluruh dunia pada Januari 2013; itu dirilis resminya pada 21 Desember 2016.[7][10] Ini memiliki format lintas platform untuk Microsoft Windows, MacOS, Linux, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, dan Shield Android TV.

Dikembangkan sebagai "permainan simulasi terbang", sebelumnya bernama World of Planes tetapi karena kemiripannya dengan World of Warplanes Wargaming, permainan ini diubah menjadi namanya yang sekarang pada tahun 2012.[11][12] Awalnya, Gaijin mengklaim setelah permainan tersebut diumumkan bahwa itu adalah lelucon April Fools sebelum mengkonfirmasi keberadaannya pada bulan Juni di tahun yang sama.[13]

Alur permainan

War Thunder didasarkan pada pertempuran senjata gabungan di udara, darat, dan laut.[18] Kendaraan berkisar dari pra-Perang Dunia I (hanya kapal)[19] hingga zaman modern,[20] dengan penekanan pada Perang Dunia II,[21][22] Perang Vietnam, dan Perang Dingin.[23] Pemain dapat mengendalikan pesawat, kendaraan darat, dan kapal perang dari sepuluh negara dengan serangkaian tingkatan yang terdapat padanya: Amerika Serikat, Jerman, Russia, Britania, Prancis, Jepang, Italia, Tiongkok, Swedia dan Israel. Permainan ini juga menggabungkan negara-negara lain seperti Finlandia, Afrika Selatan, Austria, Australia, Argentina, Kanada, Turki, Bangladesh, Belarus,[24] Kazakhstan,[25] Spanyol, Portugal, Cekoslowakia, Swiss, Korea Utara, Vietnam, Hungaria, Polandia, Romania, danPhilipina, baik sebagai "sub-pohon" (Bagian dari pohon penelitian di negara-negara besar yang didedikasikan untuk negara yang lebih kecil) atau kendaraan premium, dapat dibeli dengan uang sungguhan atau mata uang dalam permainan.

Pada perilisannya, War Thunder diterima dengan baik dengan ulasan yang umumnya positif. GameSpot memujinya karena variasi pesawat dan visualnya,[30] yang dimana IGN mengkritik antarmuka pengguna karena "terlalu banyak dan rumit" berbeda dengan "HUD dalam pertempuran yang jarang".[31]
