    Kelas Makassar merupakan kelas Landing Platform Dock yang dirancang oleh Korea Selatan. Kapal utama diberi nama setelah kota Makassar di Sulawesi dan dibangun di Busan, Korea Selatan. Kapal-kapal tersebut dirancang oleh Daesun Shipbuilding & Engineering Co. berdasarkan desain kelas Tanjung Dalpele sebelumnya yang dijual ke TNI Angkatan Laut.

    Indonesia

    Indonesia menandatangani kontrak senilai US$150 juta pada Desember 2004[2] dan dua unit pertama dibangun di Busan, Korea Selatan. Dua sisanya dibangun di galangan kapal PT PAL Indonesia di Surabaya dengan bantuan dari Daesun. Kontrak LPD ke-3 dan ke-4 yang akan dibangun di Indonesia ditandatangani dengan PT PAL pada 28 Maret 2005.

    Pada tanggal 19 Oktober 2006, unit pertama dari dua unit buatan Indonesia, diresmikan dalam sebuah upacara oleh Laksamana Slamet Subiyanto, Kepala Staf Angkatan Laut Indonesia.[3] Unit ke-3 dan ke-4 telah dirancang untuk berfungsi sebagai kapal andalan dengan ketentuan sistem komando dan kendali, senjata 57mm, dan sistem pertahanan udara.

    Kapal ke 5 yang dipesan TNI Angkatan Laut pada 11 Januari 2017.[4] Upacara pemotongan baja pertama untuk kapal tersebut dilakukan pada tanggal 28 April 2017.[4] Peletakan lunas kapal dilakukan pada 28 Agustus 2017.[5]

    Angkatan Laut Filipina memilih varian desain kelas Makassar dari PT PAL, yang disebut kelas Tarlac untuk program Strategic Sealift Vessel (SSV) setelah melalui tender kompetitif pada tahun 2013, dan kontrak untuk dua unit ditandatangani pada tanggal 23 Januari 2014.[6] Peletakan lunas unit pertama dilakukan di PT PAL Surabaya pada tanggal 22 Januari 2015[7] dan peletakan lunas unit kedua dilakukan pada tanggal 5 Juni 2015.[8]

    Pada 24 Juni 2022 PT PAL menandatangani kontrak dengan Kementerian Pertahanan Filipina untuk pembelian tambahan dua unit. Menurut PT PAL, kapal-kapal baru ini akan menyempurnakan SSV kelas Tarlac sebelumnya, sehingga dapat berlayar di perairan hingga sea state 6, serta mengoperasikan fasilitas kapal di sea state 4.[9]

    Angkatan Laut Peru memilih kelas Makassar untuk program Buque Multipropósito dari Dae Sun Shipbuilding and Engineering Co. pada tahun 2012.[10] Lunas kapal pertama kelas tersebut diletakkan di galangan kapal SIMA Callao pada 12 Juli 2013;[11] Unit kedua juga direncanakan.

    Selama Indo Defence 2016, sebuah MoU ditandatangani antara PT PAL Indonesia dan Boustead Naval Shipyard (BNS) Malaysia untuk kolaborasi pembuatan kapal pendukung multiperan (MRSS) kelas baru Angkatan Laut Malaysia, berdasarkan LPD kelas Makassar yang diperbesar, yang akan memiliki panjang keseluruhan 150m.[12]

    Pada tahun 2019, Dae Sun Shipbuilding Korea Selatan membangun LPD kelas Makassar bernama UMS Moattama untuk Angkatan Laut Myanmar.

    Pada tahun 2019, Angkatan Laut Peru menawarkan kelas Makassar baru buatan Peru ke Brasil seharga US$170 juta,[13] dengan imbalan 2 kapal selam Tipe 209 bekas. Pada tanggal 24 Oktober, Wakil Presiden Brasil Hamilton Mourão menandatangani Declaration of Intent dengan pemerintah Peru untuk pertukaran ini.[14]

    Uni Emirat Arab

    Pada 1 Juli 2022, Angkatan Laut Uni Emirat Arab menandatangani kontrak dengan PT PAL Indonesia untuk pembelian satu LPD kelas Makassar.[15][16]
