The 2nd Law adalah album studio keenam dari band rock alternatif asal Inggris, Muse. Album ini dirilis pada tanggal 28 September 2012 di Australia dan beberapa negara Eropa, kemudian 1 Oktober 2012 di negara-negara lain.

Proses rekaman

Muse masuk studio untuk mulai merekam album baru di bulan September 2011. Wolstenholme mengatakan kepada BBC Radio 1: "September dan Oktober, saat itulah kami akan masuk ke studio untuk mulai menulis album baru."[1] Dalam sebuah wawancara dengan Billboard pada 18 Oktober 2011, manajer band Anthony Addis mengungkapkan bahwa Muse sudah mulai merekam album keenam mereka di London dan diperkirakan akan rilis pada Oktober 2012.[2]

Dalam wawancara dengan majalah Kerrang! pada tanggal 14 Desember 2011, Wolstenholme menyatakan bahwa album Muse berikutnya akan menjadi "sesuatu yang sangat berbeda" dari album mereka sebelumnya. Dia juga mengatakan bahwa rasanya band seperti "menggambar sebuah garis di bawah masa-masa emas karier kami terdahulu."[3] Hal itu terungkap melalui Tom Kirk di akun Twitter-nya bahwa komposer David Campbell yang telah bekerja sama dengan Radiohead, Paul McCartney, Beck dan Adele sedang membantu Matthew Bellamy menulis album.[4] Dalam sebuah wawancara di edisi 2012 April dari NME, Bellamy mengatakan bahwa band memasukkan unsur musik elektronika, dengan pengaruh berasal dari duo French House Justice dan grup electronic rock Does It Offend You, Yeah?, serta masuknya pemain brass.

Perilisan dan promosi

Pada tanggal 6 Juni 2012, Muse merilis sebuah trailer untuk album berikutnya, The 2nd Law, dengan hitungan mundur di website band menunjukkan tanggal rilis 17 September.[5] Trailer menunjukkan The 2nd Law akan bergerak ke arah dubstep, yang disambut dengan reaksi beragam dari para penggemar.[6][7] Pada tanggal 9 Agustus, Muse menyediakan lagu "The 2nd Law: Unsustainable" untuk fans yang pre-order album dari toko online mereka. Sampul album, diambil dari Human Connectome Project, menggambarkan peta jalur otak manusia, "melacak sirkuit dalam kepala kita dan bagaimana kita memproses informasi dengan terang, warna neon. "[8]

Singel

Lagu "Survival" adalah lagu resmi untuk Olimpiade London 2012 yang dirilis di BBC Radio 1 pada tanggal 27 Juni.[9][10]

Muse mengumumkan dalam website bahwa singel "Madness" dirilis pada tanggal 20 Agustus. Mereka juga mengumumkan perilisan album ditunda dari 17 September menjadi 1 Oktober 2012.[11]

Tur

Pada tanggal 7 Juni 2012, Muse mengumumkan tur Arena Eropa; leg pertama The 2nd Law Tour. Leg termasuk tanggal di Prancis, Spanyol dan Inggris serta negara-negara lain.[12]
