Lou Costello dan Hollywood

Abbott bertemu dengan Lou Costello dalam pertunjukan burlesque beberapa kali pada permulaan tahun 1930-an. Abbott memproduksi dan turut main dalam show Minsky's Burlesque, sementara Costello mulai menanjak kariernya sebagai pelawak. Keduanya secara formil membentuk tim pada tahun 1936, setelah pasangan yang biasa menemani Costello jatuh sakit.[5] Keduanya terus berperan bersama dalam berbagai burlesque, vaudeville, minstrel show, dan pertunjukan panggung.

Bud dan Betty Abbott menikah selama 55 tahun. Pasangan ini mengadopsi dua anak: Bud Jr. pada tahun 1942 dan Vickie pada tahun 1949. Bud Jr. meninggal pada tangal 19 Januari 1997 pada usia 57 tahun.

Kematian

Abbott menderita epilepsi dalam hidupnya. Pada awal tahun 1960-an, ia mulai mengalami stroke yang kemudian terjadi berulang. Pada tahun 1972, ia mengalami patah kaki. Abbott meninggal karena kanker pada usia 78 tahun, tanggal 24 April 1974, di rumahnya, di Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, California.[6] His wife Betty died on September 12, 1981 at the age of 79.
