Gayson awalnya pernah berperan dalam Dr. No sebagai Miss Moneypenny, sekretaris bos Bond, yang sering bermain mata dengan Bond, sementara aktris yang memerankan Moneypenny, Lois Maxwell, telah terpilih sebagai Trench. Namun, Maxwell menemukan karakter Trench terlalu tidak sopan dan peran mereka dialihkan. Suara Gayson ditimpa-suarakan oleh aktris Nikki van der Zyl,[9] sebagaimana suara dalam hampir semua aktris yang muncul dalam dua film Bond pertama, walau suara asli Gayson masih tetap dapat didengar dalam trailer resmi Dr. No.

Gayson menikahi penulis Leigh Vance pada tahun 1953, sebuah pernikahan yang ditampilkan sebagai bagian dari acara televisi Bride and Groom. Mereka bercerai pada tahun 1959, dan pada tahun 1968 ia menikah dengan aktor film dan panggung Brian Jackson. Ia dan Jackson dikaruniai seorang putri sebelum bercerai setelah satu dekade menikah. Putri mereka Kate di kemudian hari muncul dalam adegan di kasino dalam film Bond tahun 1995 GoldenEye.[12]

Gayson meninggal dunia pada 8 Juni 2018, pada usia 90 tahun.[6]
