Mosaik-mosaik ini menghiasi berbagai bangunan publik dan pribadi.[1] Mosaik-mosaik ini sangat dipengaruhi oleh mosaik Yunani Kuno dan sering kali menggambarkan tokoh-tokoh penting dalam sejarah dan mitologi.
