Kim Shi-dae yang merupakan pendiri perusahaan, sebelumnya bekerja sebagai manajer grup musik K-pop [[Cool (grup musik)|Cool]] dan bekerja di [[Big Hit Entertainment]] milik [[Bang Si-hyuk]] antara tahun 2005 dan 2007 sebelum mendirikan perusahannya sendiri. Artis pertama Starship adalah [[K.Will]], kemudian diikuti oleh [[Sistar]], [[Boyfriend (grup musik)|Boyfriend]], [[Monsta X]], [[Cosmic Girls]], dan [[Jeong Se-woon]].

Pada 2 Januari 2017, Starship Entertainment dan King Kong Entertainment mendaftarkan penggabunggan mereka. Agensi-agensi tersebut sepakat untuk menggunakan nama Starship Entertainment sementara divisi yang mengelola para aktor akan beroperasi di bawah label "King Kong by Starship".
