Per 1 April 2020, kota ini memiliki estimasi jumlah penduduk sebesar 278.964 jiwa dengan jumlah KK sebesar 136.457,[1] kota ini memiliki kepadatan penduduk sebesar 340 orang per km2 dengan luas wilayah sebesar 824,61 kilometer persegi (318,38 sq mi). Aomori adalah salah satu dari 60 kota inti di Jepang dan merupakan pusat dari kawasan metropolitan Aomori.[2]
