Chlorophyta adalah divisi dari alga hijau. Nama ini digunakan dalam dua pengertian yang sangat berbeda, sehingga perhatian diperlukan untuk menentukan penggunaan oleh penulis tertentu. Dalam sistem klasifikasi yang lebih tua, mengacu pada kelompok yang sangat parafiletik dari semua ganggang hijau dalam tumbuhan hijau (Viridiplantae) dan dengan demikian mencakup sekitar 7.000 spesies[6][7] dari organisme eukariotik fotosintetik yang sebagian besar hidup di air.
