Shinbutsu bunri ([神仏分離, "pemisahan kami dan para Buddha"[1][2]] Error: {{nihongo}}: text has italic markup (help)) adalah sebuah istilah yang mengacu kepada pemisahan antara Shinto dan Buddhisme, yang pada hakikatnya merupakan penghilangan Buddhisme dari kuil-kuil Shinto-Buddhis yang sinkretis, yang berlangsung mulai musim semi tahun 1868.[3]
Restorasi Meiji tahun 1868 diiringi dengan gerakan dalam dunia Shinto untuk mengembalikan kemurnian segala sesuatu yang asli Jepang. Pada 28 Maret 1868, pemerintah Jepang mengeluarkan perintah untuk menghapus kebiasaan sebelumnya yang menggabungkan Shinto dan Buddhisme (shinbutsu shûgô).[4]
