Dalam istilah militer, desersi adalah pengingkaran tugas atau jabatan tanpa permisi (pergi, bebas atau meninggalkan) dan dilakukan dengan tanpa tujuan kembali. Hal ini berseberangan dengan absensi tak terotoritasi (bahasa Inggris: unauthorized absence, UA) atau absensi tanpa meninggalkan (bahasa Inggris: absence without leave, AS AWOL; Persemakmuran: AWL) yang merujuk kepada absensi temporer.
Prancis
