Six or seven seats come as standard in most markets. The Viano can be turned into an eight-seat people carrier by fitting two three-seater benches in the rear. A four-wheel drive (4MATIC) is optional on models with 4-cylinder diesel engines. In normal operation the system transfers driving power in a 35:65 split between the front and rear axles. The 4MATIC system does not have mechanical differential locks, but an electronic traction system (4ETS). If one or more wheels loses traction on a slippery surface, the system applies brief pulses of brake pressure to the spinning wheels thus increasing torque to wheels with good grip. Vehicles with four-wheel drive have a higher ride height, which increases approach, departure and breakover angles (20°/28°/19° respectively, versus 14°/22°/14° in conventional rear-wheel-drive models). The Vito E-Cell is the first [[electric vehicle]] mass-produced in Spain. It will be fabricated by [[Mercedes-Benz]] Spain, in the factory of [[Vitoria-Gasteiz]]. The first manufactured units (91 already) were presented on 7 February 2011. The goal is to produce 474 units by the end of the year. Most of them will be sold to foreign companies (mainly in Germany; [[Berlin]] and [[Stuttgart]]), though the [[Basque Country (autonomous community)|Basque]] supermarket gamble [[Eroski]] has got four vans for distribution duties. Last year, the government made a plan in order to encourage this kind of cars. 590 million € will be funded, from which 7 have gone to the 'E-Cell' project. This project will also be supported by the Basque and German governments.

Mercedes-Benz has chosen its Spanish factory in Vitoria for fabricating exclusively this van, which will substitute the current models Vito and Viano (the commercial-transport and passenger-carrier versions, respectively). The Vito E-Cell utilizes a front-wheel drive setup to save installation space for a 36-[[kWh]] [[lithium-ion battery]] pack housed underneath the van's cargo area. The E-Cell's [[electric motor]] has {{convert|60|kW|hp|0|abbr=on}} and {{convert|280|Nm|lbft|0|abbr=on}} of torque. The Vito E-Cell is a long van, with a distance of 3.2 meters between the axes, so that there is enough space for the batteries. With this aim of saving space, only the front-drive version is offered, unlike in the previous model, so a long development was needed, although some suspension components of the AWD ([[all-wheel drive]]) version were used. The vehicle has a payload capacity of {{convert|900|kg|lb|0|abbr=on}}, and a permissible total weight of three tons (3.050&nbsp;kg, exactly).<br />
The car does not show external changes with the other versions (except for the decoration): the body has not been modified, both the double side door and the helpful back 'gate' remain as before. The place for the refueling has also been used for the recharging connection.

The Vito E-Cell has got a complete and modern equipment. Among the main novelties, this model has a special [[heater]] connected to the high voltage network and to the basic heating system, in order to ensure pleasant conditions even in the coldest months.

In terms of safety, the new Mercedes keeps the same level as the other Vito models. The vehicle has an [[internal combustion engine]], so, if a collision occurs, the batteries are protected by a shock element. The active safety also makes that the high-technology voltage network turns off when the airbag control unit activates. The Vito E-Cell comes standard with the [[Electronic stability control|Electronic Stability Program]] (ESP) and dual [[airbag]]s.

This van is driven by an [[electric battery]]. This battery is placed under the chassis (where the [[petrol tank]] and the [[prop-shaft]] are normally), while the engine, the transformer and the charger are located in the engine's (a block of four or six cylinders) usual position, under the hood.

The battery consists of a [[Lithium ion battery]] pack split into 16 modules with 192 cells in all, with high energy density and a rated voltage of 360 volts. They are supplied by the company [[Magna International|Magna]], and they have a maximum range of {{convert|130|kg|lb|0|abbr=on}} (just as the engine), but this can be reduced by the weather conditions, the ground's topography or even the cargo volume. It is considered that a range between 90&nbsp;km and 100&nbsp;km could be more realistic. Either way, it is supposed to be enough for a workday in urban delivery. The batteries weigh {{convert|550|kg|lb|0|abbr=on}}; their life is unknown. Their total charge time is six hours through a high voltage system (380 or 400 volts); with a domestic 230 volt supply the total charge time is double, about 12 hours. The total battery capacity is 36&nbsp;kWh, 32&nbsp;kWh are available for the vehicle operation. Moreover, Mercedes-Benz offers the vehicle in the form of 'renting', in which the manufacturer takes charge of updating the batteries when necessary.

The electric engine is a permanent synchronous magnet drive with a constant power of {{convert|60|kW|hp PS|0|abbr=on}} and a maximum power of {{convert|70|kW|hp PS|0|abbr=on}}. Mercedes-Benz Kelas-V adalah mobil van (M) yang diproduksi oleh Mercedes-Benz. Ini tersedia sebagai van panel standar untuk kargo (disebut Vito), atau dengan akomodasi penumpang yang menggantikan sebagian atau seluruh area muatan (disebut Vito atau Viano).

Kelas-V/Viano adalah MPV besar. Generasi pertama mulai dijual pada tahun 1996. Generasi kedua diperkenalkan pada tahun 2004, dan kendaraan tersebut menerima nama Viano yang baru. Pada tahun 2010, kendaraan itu facelifted dengan bumper depan dan belakang direvisi dan lampu. Interior juga ditingkatkan dengan material yang ditingkatkan dan teknologi baru. Generasi ketiga diluncurkan pada 2014 dan kembali disebut V-Class (Kelas-V).

Viano tersedia dalam konfigurasi penggerak belakang dan empat roda dan tersedia dalam tiga panjang, dua jarak sumbu roda dan pilihan empat mesin bensin dan diesel (serta dua model yang disetel khusus) digabungkan ke manual enam kecepatan atau transmisi otomatis TouchShift lima kecepatan.

Mercedes-Benz Vito generasi pertama diproduksi antara tahun 1996 dan 2003. Mobil ini ditenagai oleh mesin diesel hingga 120 bhp (89 kW; 122 PS) atau mesin bensin hingga 140 bhp (104 kW; 142 PS) dan penggerak roda depan. Kisaran mesin bensin terdiri dari dua unit lama dari Mercedes (113 dan 114) dan mesin Volkswagen 2.8 VR6, ditunjuk sebagai M104.900. Untuk mesin diesel, tersedia mesin 2.3 lama dengan dan tanpa turbo dan juga mesin CDI 2.2 modern.

Desain bodi ini juga dijual sebagai V-Klasse (Kelas-V) dalam versi yang lebih mewah dan mahal (V-Klasse diganti dengan nama Viano untuk generasi kedua Vito). Viano juga menyertakan lebih sedikit fitur seperti van pada Vito seperti hanya dua kursi di depan dan kapasitas tempat duduk yang lebih besar dan lebih lapang. Pada awalnya banyak pengemudi Vito yang menginginkan sebuah van kecil yang luas memilih mikrolet Vito yang sangat mirip dengan Viano, selain dari fitur yang lebih seperti van dan fitur yang kurang mewah. Namun Viano adalah pilihan yang lebih baik, lebih seperti mobil daripada mikrolet Vito. Ini dirancang oleh Michael Mauer dari tahun 1989 hingga 1991, ketika desain akhir dipilih dan dipatenkan pada Februari 1993.[1]

Enam atau tujuh kursi menjadi standar di sebagian besar pasar. Viano dapat diubah menjadi pengangkut penumpang delapan kursi dengan memasang dua bangku tiga kursi di bagian belakang. Semua kursi belakang dapat digeser dengan peningkatan 1 inci (2,5 cm), dapat direbahkan, dan dapat diputar untuk saling berhadapan. Mereka juga dapat dilipat atau dilepas sepenuhnya untuk meningkatkan kapasitas beban. Meja lipat belakang adalah standar dalam tata letak enam dan tujuh kursi.[2] Kursi belakang tidak dapat dilipat ke lantai seperti pada beberapa rival.

Dengan semua kursi dilepas, Viano Extra-Long dapat menampung hingga 4610 liter (163 cu ft) kargo[3] dengan muatan sebesar 930 kg (2.050 pon).[4] Itu bisa menarik2.500 kg (5.512 pon) trailer yang direm dan 750 kg (1.653 pon) trailer tanpa rem. Suspensi belakang self-leveling yang dapat disesuaikan disertakan pada model spesifikasi yang lebih tinggi.[5]

Penggerak roda belakang memungkinkan Viano memiliki putaran putaran yang lebih kecil daripada saingan penggerak roda depan; Model Ringkas dan Panjang memiliki lingkaran putar118 m (387 ft) whereas the Extra-Long model turns in 125 m (410 ft).[6]

Model penumpang Jepang dijual sebagai Kelas-V sebagai V 350. Model awal termasuk V 350 Trend (RHD), V 350 Ambiente (RHD), V 350 Ambiente long (RHD).[7]

Pada 2012, Mercedes-Benz merilis model Valente di Australia untuk duduk di bawah Viano sebagai van penumpang entry-level.

V-Class generasi ketiga diluncurkan pada tahun 2014 sebagai MPV ukuran penuh untuk menggantikan Viano dan Kelas-R.[8] Namun, dipasarkan sebagai penerus Mercedes-Benz Viano.[9] Penjualan dimulai di Jerman pada Mei 2014, dengan penjualan Eropa menyusul pada Juni.[10]

Kendaraan tersebut telah dijual sejak 2015 di Amerika Serikat dan Kanada sebagai Mercedes-Benz Metris; diluncurkan sebagai kendaraan model tahun 2016. Pada saat diperkenalkan itu memiliki harga awal yang paling murah untuk model Mercedes-Benz baru di Amerika Serikat menurut majalah Car and Driver.[11] Layanan Pos Amerika Serikat telah mengumumkan bahwa mereka akan membeli hingga 30.608 kendaraan Metris penggerak kanan sebagai bagian dari program kendaraan Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) yang diumumkan pada 3 Agustus 2018, untuk mengganti dan meningkatkan armadanya kendaraan pengiriman.[12]

V-Class pada awalnya adalah model jarak sumbu roda panjang, dengan varian kompak dan ekstra panjang yang akan dirilis di kemudian hari.[13][14] Sebuah model peluncuran khusus berdasarkan V 250 BlueTEC disebut Edisi 1, dan dilengkapi dengan berbagai peralatan tambahan termasuk interior kulit, sound system Burmester dan velg besar dan sistem suspensi Agility Control.
