DBpedia adalah sebuah proyek yang bertujuan mengambil konten terstruktur dari informasi yang tercipta di Wikipedia. Informasi terstruktur ini tersedia di World Wide Web.[2] DBpedia memungkinkan pengguna mencari hubungan dan properti yang berkaitan dengan sumber daya Wikipedia, termasuk tautan ke dataset lainnya.[3] DBpedia disebut Tim Berners-Lee sebagai salah satu bagian proyek Data Bertaut paling terkenal.[4]
Latar belakang
[sunting | sunting sumber]Proyek ini dirintis oleh beberapa orang di Free University of Berlin dan University of Leipzig, bekerja sama dengan OpenLink Software.[5] Dataset publik pertamanya diterbitkan tahun 2007. Proyek ini berada di bawah lisensi gratis dan mengizinkan pengguna lain memakai ulang datasetnya..
Sebagian besar isi artikel Wikipedia adalah teks bebas, tetapi ada juga informasi terstruktur yang tertanam di dalamnya, seperti tabel "kotakinfo" (panel di kanan atas artikel Wikipedia), informasi kategorisasi, gambar, koordinat geografis dan pranala ke halaman web luar. Informasi terstruktur ini diambil dan diletakkan dalam dataset seragam yang dapat dicari pengguna.

Hingga Januari 2011[update], ada lebih dari 6,5 juta antartautan (interlink) antara DBpedia dan dataset luar, seperti Freebase, OpenCyc, UMBEL, GeoNames, Musicbrainz, CIA World Fact Book, DBLP, Project Gutenberg, DBtune Jamendo, Eurostat, Uniprot, Bio2RDF, dan US Census.[7][8] Inisiatif rintisan Thomson Reuters, OpenCalais, proyek Linked Open Data milik New York Times, Zemanta API, dan DBpedia Spotlight juga menyertakan tautan ke DBpedia.[9][10][11] BBC memakai DBpedia untuk menyusun kontennya.[12][13] Faviki memakai DBpedia untuk tag semantik.[14]
Amazon menyediakan DBpedia Public Data Set yang dapat diintegrasikan dengan aplikasi Amazon Web Services.[15]
