Hukum adalah dialog Plato yang terakhir dan paling panjang. Pertanyaan yang ditanyakan pada bagian awalnya adalah, "Siapa yang boleh membuat hukum bagimu?"

Secara umum, para sejarawan sepakat bahwa Plato menulis dialog ini ketika sudah tua. Dia gagal dalam usahanya di Sirakos di Sisilia untuk membimbing pemerintahan tiran, dan malah dijebloskan ke penjara. Peristiwa itu juga disebutkan dalam Surat Ketujuh.
