MTV Unplugged adalah seri musik yang ditayangkan MTV, menampilkan musisi terkenal memainkan alat musik akustik. Musisi rock pertama yang muncul secara unplugged di MTV adalah Jethro Tull pada 17 November 1987, tetapi waktu itu acaranya belum diberi nama. XTC melakukan hal serupa pada Mei 1989. Jon Bon Jovi dan Richie Sambora memainkan "Livin' On A Prayer" dan "Wanted Dead or Alive" secara akustik pada 1989 MTV Video Music Awards. Reaksi positif terhadap penampilan ini membuat MTV mengembangkan seri MTV Unplugged.
