Plot

Film ini diceritakan oleh Kurt (Jesse Plemons), seorang veteran fiktif Perang Afghanistan dan Perang Irak. Film ini dibuka dengan Dick Cheney (Christian Bale) serta sejumlah pejabat dan staf Gedung Putih yang menanggapi serangan 11 September 2001. Film ini kemudian kembali ke Wyoming pada tahun 1963, di mana Dick Cheney mendapat pekerjaan sebagai teknisi listrik setelah alkoholisme membuatnya dikeluarkan dari Universitas Yale. Setelah Dick Cheney dihentikan oleh polisi lalu lintas karena mengemudi sambil mabuk, sang istri, Lynne Cheney (Amy Adams), meyakinkannya untuk membersihkan hidupnya.

Film ini melaju ke depan pada tahun 1969 ketika Dick Cheney mendapatkan pekerjaan sebagai magang Gedung Putih masa pemerintahan Presiden Richard Nixon. Pada bulan Maret 2012, Dick Cheney mendapatkan transplantasi jantung. Beberapa bulan kemudian, Dick Cheney menyetujui putrinya, Liz (Lily Rabe), yang memberitahu bahwa Liz menentang pernikahan sesama jenis ketika ia mencalonkan diri untuk kursi Senat di Wyoming, membuat Mary marah dan kesal. Liz kemudian memenangkan pemilihan untuk posisi lama ayahnya di Kongres.
