Bukan hanya dari Kudus saja, soto merupakan makanan khas dari berbagai daerah di Indonesia, misalnya Soto (Coto) Makassar, yang berasal dari Kota Makassar Sulawesi Selatan atau Soto Madura dari Jawa Timur, Sroto dari Banyumas dan masih banyak lagi.
