Bus rel Bathara Kresna adalah bus rel (rail bus) milik PT Kereta Api Indonesia, yang direncanakan akan beroperasi di rute Solo Purwosari-Wonogiri dan merupakan proyek kerja sama Pemerintah Kota Surakarta dengan PT KAI, pada saat Kota Surakarta dipimpin oleh Joko Widodo. Bus rel ini adalah bus rel kedua di Indonesia setelah bus rel Kertalaya di Sumatera Selatan. Bus rel ini diperkenalkan pada publik pada tanggal 26 Juli 2011, di Surakarta bersama dengan bus bertingkat pariwisata. Bus rel ini mulai beroperasi pada tanggal 5 Agustus 2012 dengan rute Sukoharjo-Solo Purwosari-Yogyakarta Tugu. Karena ada jembatan kereta api yang sedang diperkuat antara Stasiun Pasarnguter-Stasiun Wonogiri, untuk sementara bus rel ini hanya sampai Stasiun Sukoharjo.

Bus rel ini berhenti beroperasi pada sekitar awal tahun 2013 karena rangkaian bus rel yang sering rusak. Bus rel ini dibawa ke pabrik PT Inka di Madiun untuk diperbaiki. Hingga saat ini tak ada kabar tentang bus rel ini. Pada tahun 2014, PT KAI meluncurkan Grafik Perjalanan Kereta Api (Gapeka) 2014. Di gapeka tersebut tertera nama bus rel ini, tak menutup kemungkinan bahwa bus rel ini akan beroperasi kembali pada tahun 2014. Namun, menurut direktur PT KA Ignasius Jonan, bus rel ini tidak akan dioperasikan lagi karena adanya problem teknis dan biaya operasional KA yang telah lama mangkrak tesebut sangat tinggi.

Tanggal 4 Desember 2014, kereta ini kembali diujicobakan oleh PT KAI dan Dinas Perhubungan Komunikasi dan informatika. Kereta ini rencanannya dioperasikan pada 6 Februari 2015 odengan Rute Solo-sukoharjo-wonogiri dengan tarif Rp4.000. namun pada awal Februari 2015, Kementerian Perhubungan membatalkan pengoperasian kereta itu hingga waktu yang tidak ditentukan.

Asal-usul istilah

Nama Bathara Kresna berasal dari tokoh Mahabharata, Krishna.
