Laksamana Muda William Reynolds Purnell (6 September 1886 – 3 Maret 1955) adalah seorang perwira dalam Angkatan Laut Amerika Serikat yang bertugas pada Perang Dunia I dan Perang Dunia II. Sebagai angkatan 1908 dari Akademi Angkatan Laut Amerika Serikat, ia memimpin kapal-kapal penghancur pada Perang Dunia I.
Pada 1945, ia datang ke Tinian sebagai perwakilan Komite Kebijakan Militer, dan mengkoordinasikan persiapan untuk pengeboman atom Hiroshima dan Nagasaki dengan para komandan Angkatan Darat dan Angkatan Laut senior di Pasifik. Ia pensiun dari Angkatan Laut pada 1946 dan meninggal pada 1955.
Kehidupan awal
William Reynolds Purnell lahir di Bowling Green, Missouri, pada 6 September 1886.[1] Pada 1908, ia lulus dari Akademi Angkatan Laut Amerika Serikat di Annapolis.
