Astro (Hangul: 아스트로) (ditulis ASTRO) adalah sebuah boy grup Korea Selatan yang dibentuk oleh Fantagio pada tahun 2015. Grup ini terdiri dari 6 member : Jinjin, MJ, Cha Eunwoo, Moonbin, Rocky, and Yoon Sanha.[1] Pada tanggal 14 Agustus, Fantagio mengeluarkan informasi tentang grup barunya melalui sosial media mereka, meliputi foto dan profil setiap member dan mengumumkan nama grup tersebut.[2] Astro merilis debut mini album mereka yang berjudul "Spring Up" pada tanggal 23 Februari 2016.[3]

Sejarah

Pra-debut

Sebelum dibentuk, anggotanya memulai sebagai trainee dibawah Fantagio iTeen, sebuah program pengembangan bakat trainee dibawah Fantagio Entertainment. Mereka sebelumnya dikenal dengan iTeen Boys.

Dengan cara yang sama dengan bagaimana Fantagio membentuk 5urprise, Astro membintangi sebuah seri drama web, berjudul To Be Continued pada Agustus 2015.[4] Anggota ASTRO membintangi drama tersebut sebagai diri mereka sendiri bersama dengan Kim Sae-ron, anggota 5urprise Seo Kang-joon dan Hello Venus.[5]

Pada Januari 2016, Astro membintangi acara realitas mereka, Astro OK! Ready, yang ditayangkan di MBC Every1 pada pukul 7PM KST.[6] ASTRO juga membuat penampilannya di KBS variety show, Golden Bell Challenge.[7]

2016: Debut dengan Spring Up dan Summer Vibes

Mini album pertama ASTRO, Spring Up dirilis pada tanggal 23 Februari 2016 dengan lagu utama "Hide & Seek".[8] Mereka juga mengumumkan nama official fanclub mereka, yaitu : AROHA, yang merupakan kependekan dari ASTRO Hearts All Fans. Aroha juga mempunyai arti "cinta" dalam bahasa Maori (bahasa asli Selandia Baru).[9] Dalam seminggu sejak perilisan, mini album pertama ASTRO berhasil menduduki peringkat #6 di Billboard World Albums Chart Amerika Serikat,[10] as well as #4 on Gaon Music Chart.[11] Pada 25 Februari, ASTRO merilis video musik untuk "Cat's Eye", termasuk gambar dan foto dari To Be Continued.[12] Di bulan Maret pada tahun yang sama, ASTRO adalah satu-satunya bintang Korea yang diundang di LeTV Entertainment Awards di China.[13]

Pada 3 Maret 2016, Astro menandatangani kontrak dengan bran seragam PL School Wear.[31][32]

April 2016, Astro terpilih menjadi model untuk brand kosmetik LOVLUV. Brand kosmetik menjelaskan : "ASTRO sangat siap karena mereka telah dilatih selama 7 tahun. Tak terduga, 'LOVLUV' juga merupakan brand yang sudah dipersiapkan selama 7 tahun. Mereka meningkatkan nilai mereka dengan persiapan yang sangat keras."[33]
