Kehidupan awal
Diesel terlahir sebagai Mark Sinclair di Alameda County, California,[1] bersama saudara kembarnya, Paul.[3][4] Ibunya, Delora Sherleen (Sinclair) Vincent, adalah seorang astrologer.[5][6] Diesel telah menyatakan bahwa dia berasal dari "etnis yang ambigu".[7] Latar belakang ibunya meliputi Inggris, Jerman, dan Skotlandia.[8] Dia belum pernah bertemu ayah kandungnya, dan telah menyatakan bahwa "semua yang saya tahu dari ibu saya adalah bahwa saya memiliki koneksi dengan berbagai budaya".[9] Diesel telah mengidentifikasi diri sebagai "seseorang yang berwarna",[10] dan telah menyatakan bahwa hubungan orang tuanya akan menjadi ilegal di beberapa bagian Amerika Serikat karena undang-undang anti-perkawinan antar suku atau bangsa di Amerika Serikat.[11] Dia dibesarkan di New York City oleh ibu Kaukasia dan ayah tiri Afrika-Amerika, Irving H. Diesel membuat debut panggungnya pada usia tujuh tahun saat ia tampil dalam permainan anak-anak Dinosaur Door , yang ditulis oleh Barbara Garson. Drama tersebut diproduksi di Theater for the New City di Greenwich Village New York.
