Upacara Penghargaan Filmfare Awards ke - 54, yang dipersembahkan oleh The Times Group dan Idea Cellular, adalah salah satu upacara penghargaan paling bergengsi di India, untuk menghormati film Bollywood terbaik tahun 2008. Itu terjadi pada 28 Februari 2009 di Yash Raj Studios, Mumbai. [1] Aktor Ranbir Kapoor dan Imran Khan menjadi pembawa acara untuk bagian pertama, [1] sementara aktris Konkona Sen Sharma dan Deepika Padukone menjadi pembawa acara di bagian terakhir. [2] Ini adalah pertama kalinya aktor-aktor ini menyelenggarakan upacara penghargaan. Upacara itu disiarkan televisi di India delapan hari kemudian, pada 8 Maret 2009. [3]

Nominasi untuk berbagai film diumumkan pada 16 Februari 2009. [4] Film-film Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi dan Rock On !! memimpin nominasi dengan total masing-masing sepuluh nominasi, diikuti oleh Jodhaa Akbar dengan sembilan nominasi. Ghajini dan Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na memiliki tujuh nominasi masing-masing. Perhatikan bahwa nominasi hanya untuk penghargaan utama, karena tidak ada daftar nominasi untuk penghargaan teknis dan lainnya.

Film pemenang penghargaan utama ternyata adalah Jodhaa Akbar dan Rock On !!, keduanya masing-masing memenangkan lima Penghargaan Filmfare. Mantan memenangkan empat di bawah kategori utama, termasuk film terbaik, sutradara terbaik dan penghargaan aktor terbaik, [5] sedangkan yang terakhir memenangkan satu di kategori utama. Itu adalah penghargaan Filmfare pertama Arjun Rampal, saat ia memenangkan Penghargaan Filmfare untuk Aktor Pendukung Terbaik . Priyanka Chopra memenangkan Penghargaan Filmfare Best Actress pertamanya pada tahun 2009 untuk perannya dalam Fashion sementara Asin Thottumkal menerima Penghargaan Filmfare pertamanya untuk Debut Wanita Terbaik, untuk penampilannya di Ghajini.

  • This film saw the directorial debut of South Indian film-maker A R Murugadoss, who had also directed the Tamil version of this film. The Tamil version (also titled Ghajini) starred Surya Sivakumar.
  • South India actress Asin Thottumkal debuted in Bollywood with this film, and won the Filmfare Best Female Debut Award. Incidentally, she had also starred as the female lead in the Tamil version of this film. Thus, she became the first actress to act in the same role in two films (remakes) of two different languages.
