Lagu protes

Sebuah lagu protes adalah sebuah lagu yang dikaitkan dengan sebuah gerakan untuk perubahan sosial dan menjadi sebuah bagian dari kategori lagu topikal (atau lagu yang terkait dengan peristiwa terkini). Lagu protes dapat bergenre rakyat, klasik, atau komersial.

Sebuah contoh lagu topikal abad ke-18 yang dimaksudkan sebagai lagu protes feminis adalah "Rights of Woman" (1795), dinyanyikan dengan nada "God Save the King", yang ditulis secara anonim oleh "A Lady" dan diterbitkan dalam Philadelphia Minerva, 17 Oktober 1795. Namun, tidak ada bukti bahwa lagu tersebut pernah dinyanyikan sebagai lagu gerakan.
