Nama Rex Orange County didasari oleh nama kecil yang diberikan gurunya, the OC, dari O'Connor.[3]

Pada Januari 2018b O'Connor muncul di urutan kedua penghargaan BBC Sound of 2018 setelah penyanyi berkebangsaan Norwegia, Sigrid.[4]
