Liga Eropa UEFA 2020–21 akan menjadi musim ke-50 turnamen klub kasta kedua sepakbola Eropa yang diselenggarakan oleh UEFA, dan musim ke-12 sejak berganti nama dari Piala UEFA ke Liga Eropa UEFA.
Final akan dimainkan di Stadion Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán di Seville, Spanyol.[1] Pemenang Liga Eropa UEFA 2020–21 akan otomatis lolos ke babak grup Liga Champions UEFA 2021–2022, dan bekesempatan bermain melawan para pemenang Liga Champions UEFA 2020–2021 di Piala Super UEFA 2021.
Alokasi tim asosiasi
Total terdapat 213 tim dari 55 anggota asosiasi UEFA berpartisipasi pada Liga Europa UEFA 2020–21. Rangking asosiasi berdasarkan Koefisien Negara UEFA digunakan untuk mendeterminasi jumlah peserta:[2]
- Asosiasi 1–50 (kecuali Liechtenstein) masing-masing memiliki tiga tim memenuhi syarat.
- Asosiasi 51–55 masing - masing memiliki dua tim memenuhi syarat (mulai dari musim ini, dengan asosiasi 51 kehilangan satu tempat dan asosiasi 55 mendapatkan satu tempat).[3]
- Liechtenstein and Kosovo (Asosiasi 55) masing-masing memiliki satu tim memenuhi syarat. (Liechtenstein hanya menyelengarakan kejuaraan domestik dan tidak menyelenggarakan liga domestik; Kosovo sebagai pertimbangan komite eksekutif UEFA).
- Selain itu, 55 tim tereliminasi dari Liga Champions UEFA 2020–21 ditranfser ke Liga Eropa (jumlah standar 57, tapi 2 berkompetisi pada Liga Champions UEFA 2020–21).
Peringkat asosiasi
Untuk Liga Eropa UEFA 2020–21, setiap asosiasi ditempatkan berdasarkan Koefisien Negara UEFA 2019, yang diambil dari performa pada kompetisi Eropa pada 2014–15 hingga 2018–19.[4] Bagian dari alokasi berdasarkan pada koefisien negara, asosiasi memiliki tambahan tim peserta di Liga Champions, sebagai catatan berikut:

Perubahan dilakukan pada daftar akses default sejak pemegang gelar Liga Champions, Bayern Munich, dan pemegang gelar Liga Europa, Sevilla, yang dijamin mendapat tempat di babak grup Liga Champions, sudah lolos ke babak grup Liga Champions melalui liga domestik mereka, yang berarti ada lebih sedikit tim yang ditransfer dari Liga Champions karena perubahan daftar akses Liga Champions. Namun, sebagai akibat dari penundaan jadwal pada musim Eropa 2019-20 dan 2020-21 karena pandemi COVID-19, musim Eropa 2020–21 dimulai sebelum berakhirnya musim Eropa 2019-20. Aturan redistribusi
Tempat Liga Europa dikosongkan ketika tim memenuhi syarat untuk Liga Champions dan Liga Europa, atau memenuhi syarat untuk Liga Europa dengan lebih dari satu metode. Ketika sebuah tempat dikosongkan, itu didistribusikan kembali dalam asosiasi nasional dengan aturan berikut: [6]

Tim
Pada awal April 2020, UEFA mengumumkan bahwa karena pandemi COVID-19 di Eropa, batas waktu untuk mengikuti turnamen telah ditunda hingga pemberitahuan lebih lanjut.[7] UEFA juga mengirimkan surat kepada semua asosiasi anggota bahwa liga domestik harus diselesaikan secara penuh tanpa diakhiri sebelum waktunya agar dapat lolos ke kompetisi Eropa.[8] Setelah bertemu dengan 55 asosiasi UEFA pada 21 April 2020, UEFA sangat merekomendasikan mereka untuk menyelesaikan kompetisi liga dan piala teratas domestik, meskipun dalam beberapa kasus khusus di mana tidak memungkinkan, UEFA akan mengembangkan pedoman mengenai partisipasi dalam kompetisi klub jika terjadi a liga atau piala dibatalkan.[9][10] Setelah pertemuan Komite Eksekutif UEFA pada 23 April 2020, UEFA mengumumkan bahwa jika kompetisi domestik dihentikan sebelum waktunya karena alasan yang sah sesuai dengan kondisi yang berkaitan dengan kesehatan masyarakat atau masalah ekonomi, asosiasi nasional yang bersangkutan diharuskan untuk memilih tim peserta mereka untuk tahun 2020 –21 Kompetisi klub UEFA berdasarkan prestasi olahraga di kompetisi domestik 2019-20, dan UEFA berhak menolak penerimaan mereka jika UEFA menganggap penghentian kompetisi tidak sah, atau prosedur seleksi tidak objektif, transparan dan non-diskriminatif, atau tim tersebut dianggap oleh publik sebagai kualifikasi yang tidak adil. Kompetisi domestik yang ditangguhkan juga dapat dimulai kembali dengan format yang berbeda dari yang asli dengan cara yang masih memfasilitasi kualifikasi berdasarkan prestasi olahraga.[11][12] Semua liga harus berkomunikasi dengan UEFA sebelum 25 Mei 2020 apakah mereka berniat untuk memulai kembali kompetisi mereka,[13] tetapi tenggat waktu ini kemudian diperpanjang. - The 2019–20 Greek Football Cup was not completed by the UEFA registration deadline. However, since both finalists, Olympiacos and AEK Athens, were in the top three of the 2019–20 Super League Greece, the result of the final would have no impact on qualification for the 2020–21 UEFA Europa League.
- Panathinaikos, the fourth-placed team of the 2019–20 Super League Greece, would have qualified for the 2020–21 UEFA Europa League second qualifying round, but were banned from UEFA club competitions for the first season they would qualify between the 2018–19 and 2020–21 seasons by the UEFA Club Financial Control Body on 24 April 2018 due to overdue payables, which turned out to be the 2020–21 season since they did not qualify for either the 2018–19 or 2019–20 season.[23] As a result, OFI, the sixth-placed team, qualified for this berth.
- ^ Liechtenstein (LIE): The 2019–20 Liechtenstein Cup was abandoned due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Liechtenstein. The team remaining in the cup with the highest UEFA club coefficient, Vaduz, were selected to play in the 2020–21 UEFA Europa League by the Liechtenstein Football Association, entering the first qualifying round.[24]
- ^ Luxembourg (LUX): The 2019–20 Luxembourg National Division and the 2019–20 Luxembourg Cup were abandoned due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Luxembourg. - ^ San Marino (SMR): The 2019–20 Campionato Sammarinese di Calcio and the 2019–20 Coppa Titano were abandoned due to the COVID-19 pandemic in San Marino. The second-placed and third-placed teams of the league at the time of the abandonment, Folgore and Tre Penne, were originally selected to play in the 2020–21 UEFA Europa League by the San Marino Football Federation, entering the preliminary round.[32] However, Folgore were banned by UEFA due to previous match-fixing, and were replaced by the fourth-placed team, La Fiorita.[33]
- ^ Scotland (SCO): The 2019–20 Scottish Premiership was abandoned and the 2019–20 Scottish Cup was not completed by the UEFA registration deadline due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Scotland. The second-placed, third-placed and fourth-placed teams of the league at the time of the abandonment based on the average number of points per matches played for each team, Rangers, Motherwell and Aberdeen, were selected to play in the 2020–21 UEFA Europa League by the Scottish Football Association, entering the second qualifying round (second-placed team) and first qualifying round respectively.[34]

- ^ Turkey (TUR): Trabzonspor, the second-placed team of the 2019–20 Süper Lig, would have qualified for the 2020–21 UEFA Champions League second qualifying round, but were banned from all UEFA club competitions for the 2020–21 season by the UEFA Club Financial Control Body on 3 June 2020 due to breaches of the UEFA Financial Fair Play Regulations.[37] Trabzonspor appealed the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport,[38] but on 30 July 2020, it was announced that the ban on them participating in UEFA club competitions was upheld.[39] As a result, Beşiktaş, the third-placed team, qualified for this berth instead of entering the Europa League group stage, Sivasspor, the fourth-placed team, entered the Europa League group stage instead of the third qualifying round, Alanyaspor, the fifth-placed team, entered the third qualifying round instead of the second qualifying round, and Galatasaray, the sixth-placed team, qualified for the 2020–21 UEFA Europa League second qualifying round.
