Volcanic Explosivity Index (VEI) adalah skala numerik yang mengukur ukuran relatif ledakan dari letusan gunung berapi dan sejarah letusan. VEI dikemukakan oleh Chris Newhall dari U.S. Geological Survey dan Steve Self dari Universitas Hawaii tahun 1982 untuk menyediakan pengukuran relatif dari besarnya letusan Gunung berapi. VEI memiliki skala 1 hingga 8 berdasarkan kekuatan letusan vulkanis yang terjadi.[1][2]
