Pembantaian El Mozote terjadi di desa El Mozote, Departemen Morazán, El Salvador, pada tanggal 11 Desember 1981, ketika Angkatan Bersenjata El Salvador yang dididik oleh militer Amerika Serikat membunuh setidaknya 1000 warga sipil dalam kampanye anti-perang gerilya^[1]^[2].

Dilaporkan, pembantaian ini merupakan kejahatan perang terburuk dalam sejarah Amerika Latin modern.

Pembantaian ini berada di titik nadir dalam Perang Saudara El Salvador yang merebak di negeri ini antara tahun 1970-an sampai 1990.

Ketika berita pembantaian ini muncul perlahan, pemerintahan Reagan di Amerika Serikat mencoba menggambarkannya sebagai propaganda FMLN karena berpotensi mempersulit kepentingan pemerintah Amerika Serikat yang memberikan bantuan militer kepada pemerintah El Salvador^[3].
