Ubisoft Entertainment S.A. (/[invalid input: 'icon']ˈjuːbisɒft/ YOO-bee-soft;[5] Euronext: UBI) adalah sebuah perusahaan permainan video yang berpusat di Rennes, Perancis. Perusahaan tersebut telah membuka cabang dengan jumlah 25 studio di 17 negara dan anak perusahaannya di 26 negara.[6] Ubisoft juga merupakan perusahaan permainan video terbesar keempat di dunia pada 2009.

Sejarah

Lima bersaudara dari keluarga Guillemot mendirikan Ubisoft sebagai penerbit permainan komputer pada Maret 1986 di Perancis. [7] Yves Guillemot membuat penawaran dengan Electronic Arts, Sierra Entertainment, dan MicroPose untuk mendistribusikan permainan mereka di Perancis. Pada akhir dekade, Ubisoft memulai perluasan pada pasar lainnya, termasuk Amerika Serikat, Britania Raya, dan Jerman.[8]

Awal tahun 1990-an, Ubisoft berinisiatif dalam program pengembangan permainan dalam rumah yang ketika pada tahun 1994 mereka membuka sebuah studio di Montreuil, Perancis, yang nantinya menjadi kantor pusat mereka. Pada Maret 2001, Grup Gores Technology menjual divisi hiburan The Learning Company (yang termasuk beberapa permainan yang diterbitkan oleh Brøderbund Software, Mattel, Mindscape, dan Strategic Simulations, Inc.) kepada mereka. Pada Maret 2005, Ubisoft mengakuisisi bagian dari MC2-Microïds (Microïds Kanada) dan mengintergrasikan ke Ubisoft Montreal.[13]

Pada Juli 2006, Ubisoft juga membeli hak waralaba Driver dari Atari dengan biaya €19 juta (US$24 juta) dalam pembiayaan untuk waralaba, hak teknologi, dan banyak aset. Tambahannya, Ubisoft tidak mengakuisisi studionya, pengembang Driver, Reflections Interactive menjadi bagian dari Ubisoft.
