Bonobo (Pan paniscus), sebelumnya dikenal sebagai simpanse kerdil, adalah satu dari dua anggota genus simpanse Pan. Anggota yang lain adalah simpanse biasa atau Pan troglodytes. Keduanya disebut simpanse, meskipun istilah ini kerap dipakai bagi Pan troglodytes, yang berukuran lebih besar. Kecenderungan sekarang menyebutkan istilah "simpanse" untuk kedua spesies ini.
