Pembentukan PCS

Garena mengumumkan penggabungan LMS dan LST menjadi satu liga pada 25 September 2019, yang rinciannya akan dirilis menjelang akhir tahun.[4] Pada 19 Desember, Riot Games mengumumkan nama liga baru, Pacific Championship Series (PCS)[1][2][3], dan daftar sembilan dari sepuluh tim yang akan bersaing di dalamnya[5][6]. Pada tanggal 17 Januari 2020, tim kesepuluh sekaligus tim yang terakhir diumumkan bergabung dengan PCS adalah Berjaya Dragons dari Malaysia[11][12].

Musim Perdana PCS

Musim 2020 ditunda hingga pemberitahuan lebih lanjut pada 29 Januari 2020 karena wabah COVID-19[13][14]. Pada 18 Februari 2020, Riot Games mengumumkan bahwa musim 2020 secara resmi akan dimulai pada 29 Februari 2020[15]. Pada 13 Februari 2020, G-Rex telah membubarkan tim League of Legends dan kehilangan tempatnya di PCS sebagai akibat dari restrukturisasi internal oleh perusahaan induk mereka, Emperor Esports Stars[16]. Lima hari kemudian pada tanggal 18 Februari 2020, Machi Esports diumumkan sebagai pengganti G-Rex[15].

  3. Game di ronde pertama adalah best-of-three (BO3), dan sisanya adalah best-of-five (BO5)

Kualifikasi

  1. Pemenang dari spring split akan bermain untuk PCS di Mid-Season Invitational
  2. Pemenang dan juara kedua dari summer split lolos ke Worlds Championships masing-masing sebagai first seed dan second seed dari PCS

Sepuluh tim awalnya dipilih oleh Riot Games sebagai mitra franchise permanen PCS[5][6]. Namun, Riot Games mengumumkan pada tanggal 4 Agustus 2020 bahwa turnamen promosi akan diperkenalkan untuk musim 2021 untuk mempromosikan daya saing regional[17].
