Pengereman dinamis adalah penggunaan motor traksi listrik sebagai generator saat memperlambat kendaraan seperti lokomotif listrik atau diesel-listrik. Ini disebut "reostatik" jika daya listrik yang dihasilkan dibuang sebagai panas dalam resistor jaringan rem, dan "regeneratif" jika daya dikembalikan ke jalur suplai.
Pengereman dinamis mengurangi keausan pada komponen pengereman berbasis gesekan, dan regenerasi menurunkan konsumsi energi bersih. Pengereman dinamis juga dapat digunakan pada gerbong dengan banyak unit, Lintas Rel Terpadu, trem listrik, bus listrik, dan mobil listrik hibrida dan listrik.
