Waterford (bahasa Irlandia: Port Láirge) ialah sebuah kota di County Waterford, Munster, Republik Irlandia, kota terbesar ke-5 di Irlandia.
Dengan penduduk sebanyak 45.775 jiwa kota ini adalah yang terbesar di County Waterford yang bertindak sebagai otoritas tingkat county. Pusat administratif untuk bagian lain dari county ini adalah Dungarvan.
Sejarah
Sebagai kota tertua di Irlandia, kota ini didirikan oleh bangsa Viking pada tahun 914. Nama kota ini berasal dari bahasa Norse Kuno Vedrarfjord. Pada tahun 1137, Diarmuid MacMorrough, Raja Leinster, gagal untuk mengambil alih Waterford. Ia kembali pada tahun 1170 bersama serdadu sewaan bangsa Normandia di bawah Richard de Clare, 2nd Earl of Pembroke (Strongbow); bersama mereka mengepung dan merebut Waterford sebagai pertahanan yang berbahaya. Inilah saat masuknya bangsa Anglo-Norman ke Irlandia. Pada tahun 1171, Henry II dari Inggris mendarat ke Waterford. Waterford dan kemudian Dublin dinyatakan sebagai kota kerajaan, Dublin dinyatakan sebagai ibu kota Irlandia.
Sejak masa lalu, di sinilah pelabuhan terpenting di Irlandia berada, pada abad ke-19, kota ini menjadi pusat industri yang penting seperti pembuatan kaca dan juga produk kaca.
