Lorraine V. Aragon (lahir, (1954-01-07)7 Januari 1954), adalah seorang antropolog budaya dan peneliti Amerika Serikat. Aragon telah melakukan penelitian jangka panjang di Indonesia, dan kerja lapangan komparatif di negara-negara Asia Tenggara lainnya termasuk Singapura, Malaysia, Filipina, Malaysia, Thailand, dan Kamboja. Saat ini, dia menjabat sebagai profesor antropologi di University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.[1]

Kehidupan pribadi

Aragon lahir pada tanggal 7 Januari 1954. Pada tahun 1992, dia mendapatkan gelar Ph.D dari Universitas Illinois.[2]

Aragon memulai kerja lapangannya di Sulawesi, Indonesia, untuk meneliti konsekuensi dari misi penginjilan Protestan dan konversi petani padi dari dataran tinggi. Pada awal tahun 1998, Aragon menyelidiki dan menganalisis ketegangan regional dan konflik agama di Indonesia, yang berbasis di ketidakadilan pemerintahan yang lama serta kebijakan ekonomi dan politik yang lebih baru.[2]

Bidang penelitian

Bidang profesional yang digelutinya termasuk persimpangan praktik keagamaan, kesenian daerah, dan lembaga-lembaga negara yang mengatur perbedaan etnis dan hukum properti. Dia telah bekerja di museum serta di bidang akademis dan LSM. Dia adalah penulis atau co-penulis dari berbagai macam artikel dan buku termasuk Fields of the Lord: Animism, Christian Minorities, and State Development in Indonesia (2000) dan Beyond the Java Sea: Art of Indonesia’s Outer Islands (1991).[2]

Penghargaan

Dia telah menerima penghargaan penelitian dan beasiswa dari National Endowment for Humanities, National Humanities Center, Yayasan John D. dan Catherine T. MacArthur, US Fulbright, National Science Foundation, ACLS, dan Yayasan Wenner-Gren untuk Penelitian Antropologi.[3]
