Francis George Steiner[1] (23 April 1929 – 3 Februari 2020)[2][3] adalah seorang kritikus sastra, penulis esai, filsuf, novelis, dan pendidik Prancis-Amerika.[4] Ia menulis secara luas tentang hubungan antara bahasa, sastra, dan masyarakat, serta dampak Holokaus.[5] Sebuah artikel di The Guardian menggambarkan Steiner sebagai seorang "poliglot dan polimat", serta "sering dikreditkan sebagai seorang yang menyusun kembali peran kritikus".[6]

Steiner adalah Profesor Bahasa Inggris dan Perbandingan Sastra di Universitas Jenewa (1974-94), Profesor Perbandingan Sastra dan Fellow di Universitas Oxford (1994-95) dan Profesor Puisi di Universitas Harvard (2001–02).[1]

Dia terakhir tinggal di Cambridge, Inggris, di mana dia menjadi Fellow Luar Biasa di Churchill College di Universitas Cambridge sejak 1969.
